View Full Version : Chad Pennington is so overrated

What do you know? Chad comes up lame against a great defensive team again. Jaguars were begging to lose this game and the refs were doing everything they can to give the Jets a WIN today, but Pennington failed to get it done again. All this talk about him being the next Joe Montana and such is now so laughable. I know people bag on Daunte Culpepper in Minnesota, but at least Daunte gives it his all and plays tough. Daunte has more toughness than Chad Pennington. Chad Pennington is a guy that makes too many mistakes and a guy that is a softie. Joe Montana never had those traits. I hope Jets fans and the NY media start realizing that Chad ain't all that and quite frankly, I think he might be one of the worse QBs in football. He can talk a great game and smile to the cameras every week, but he ain't fooling anyone thinking he is a great QB.

I think Jets signing Chad will hamper this franchise for a very long time. They should have signed Gus Freotte this offseason. Gus Freotte would have been a great mentor to Chad the way he was with Daunte and Brian Griese. Gus would have been a great teacher to Chad. Heck if Gus Freotte was here, the Jets would beat great teams in football. Obviously, they signed Fielder because he would not have been a threat to Chad.

I am sick and tired about the excuse that Chad gets in the media about his arm and about Mike Heimerdinger, the new offensive coordinator (Freotte would have excelled under Heimerdinger). It's time to realize that Chad is not a great or good QB. He reminds me a lot like Kordell Stewart in which they are both gutless, choke artists.

who has compared him to joe montana? except for greenberg, no one else really thinks he is all that great. he's always been viewed only as a good QB who has a weak arm.

Ray: The NY media and the NY sports fans were comparing him to Montana and Namath three or four years ago. I am not kidding and you can ask any NY sports fan that. Steve Serby, the clueless NFL writer for the NY Post, also compared him to Montana.

The NY Media made it seem like the Mets had won the world series after they beat the Phillies in the first of a three game set (earlier this month, or late August I think) cause they pulled into how ever many games of the wild card.

That's one of the big reason why I hate NY sports teams. The media can be annoying as the fans here. When I go to a conveient store to get my dinner or buy the Newark Star-Ledger (the paper I read), I always see the NY papers boasting how great a NY sports team. My god do I have to see the Yankees, Knicks, Rangers, Giants, and Jets in the front page of the paper just to rub it in. Good god! Newsday, NY Times, NY Daily News, and NY Post really go over the top.

in reality, chad is hurt. thats pretty much a given. when you have a bad Cuff, there is nothing you can do. plain and simple, his career is toast unless his shoulder is repaired sufficiently. Its not an excuse, its a reason.

and if you have to rely on gus ferotte as your QB, you should just give up (unless you have miami's defense and running game where you dont need a QB)

Ya that cuff is something that can take a year and a half to heal and get better. That is about the curse of death for an athlete I feel. Man I fear a cuff injury the most out of all of them that I could get. Most you can fight though and be ok but think of what you have to use you rotator cuff for.

It looks like Bollinger is going to be playing next Sunday and for weeks to come. I think it's a right move for lot of reasons. For one thing, Chad has no business being there. Second, this gives Brooks a chance to develop and see if he can be better than Pennington. I think Bollinger can do much well in Mike Heimerdinger's offense unlike Pennington. I think the Jets are better off with Bollinger at QB than Fiedler and Pennington.

Gus Freotte is pretty darn good. The guy was fantastic with the Vikings as he was 4-0 as a starter when Daunte was hurt couple of years ago. Vikings fans and Vikings players loved him. Randy Moss has nothing but great things to say about Gus and he is Gus's best friend. Gus Freotte may not be Peyton, Brady, or McNabb, but he wins and he gets it done. Gus has a winning attitude. I had a chance to read this book by John Maxwell called the Winning Attitude. When I read that book, I think of Gus. Gus brings that intangibles to the team in terms of interacting and communicating with players. I believe Daunte became good under Gus. Gus's attitude is so contagious. Personally, I think the Vikings problems is that they miss Gus's leadership.

I think it would be a great story if Gus leads the Dolphins to a championship and you know lot of Minnesotans would be rooting for him.
