I heard this on ESPN but cant find a link yet. I am sure Shawn has heard about it and knows a link.
But they said this morning in Pitt. they have been talking about in the start of the forth quarter if you watch the game they add a minute to the game clock. It goes from 13:something to 14:51 after 4 plays was run at the start of the forth quarter.

I DVRed the game... currently checking.. will take a few to fast forward to there. That being said, the Steelers didnt deserve to win after the boneheaded play by Randle El...

I just heard also that the NFL said it should have been done.
And ya I saw the game Shawn and that is the same play I was thinking cost them also. A good game I thought for the Steelers in balance and Ben just doing what he had to do to win the game and he got the ball to the WR and he blew the game.
I bet he feels like crap to about it today. :(

YOu saying the NFL said the itme should have been added?? Because that is not what I am hearing. The NFL said the people keeping the time screwed the pooch.

aopparently, the clock keeper keeps time. when the clock stops, he takes notes. When the clock stopped at 13:59 there was a false start. WHen he went to reset the clock, he looked at the wrong notes, and set it back to 14:51. The referee never caught it... and once the next play is run, it is too late to do anything about it anyhow.

Yeah, I'm not really seeing the difference that this would have made. Everyone would have managed time differently...and probably still would have had the same kind of outcome.

no effect on the score
both teams had plenty of time after that

You're kidding; Right?
50 seconds is an eternity in a football game, especially in the 4th quarter.

the problem, Royce and why I do not think it really affected the outcome of the game, is because you have no clue as to how the play calling would have been different with say 6 minutes left to play when the Patriotsd took control of the ball if there had only been in fact 5 minutes left. There are too many variables that go into the situation.
That being said, the Patriots would have gotten the ball back with 29 seconds left. assuming that everything fell into place exactly as it did. The Patriots got into FG range in 24 seconds. Enough said.

I'm not saying the outcome of this game would have been changed, which it might have, but that 55 seconds is A LOT in a fourth quarter, especially to a team trailing.

at the time., tjeu were not trailing.

Once again, I was talking about in general. :laff: I'm going to start specifying that kind of stuff more.

but, like i said, the Pats still woul dhave gotten into FG range with the amount of t ime they had.

I always thought that the time was kept track of by both the stadium timekeeper AND a referee. Guess not in this case huh?
This goes right up there with that crazy OT coin flip game against the Lions in 1996 I believe. Another unbelieveable screw job against the Steelers.

we have now gotten, by official count.. I believe.. 8 apologies from the league since that Thanksgiving Day game in 1996.

oh.. and the time IS kept by the referee on the field. He just said he didnt notice.

I believe the coin flip game was actually in '98...we were 7-4 and then lost that one and the next four to finish 7-9. (In '96, we lost to NE in the playoffs in the fog bowl...we didn't play very well either).
As for the time on the clock, I'm not too worried about it. It's not like they waited till there was 2 seconds left, and then said "here's some more time, see what you can do with it." There was basically the whole 4th quarter left at the time, and I don't think it had much of an impact.
That being said, it wouldn't have been a bad thing if they had gotten it right.
