PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Jimmy Rollins set a Philadelphia Phillies record by extending his hitting streak to 32 games with a single against the New York Mets in the seventh inning on Tuesday night.

Rollins had been tied with Ed Delahanty, who hit in 31 in a row in 1899. His streak is the longest in the majors since Florida's Luis Castillo hit in 35 straight in 2002.

Rollins pumped his fist as he ran to first base after hitting a sharp grounder up the middle off reliever Juan Padilla to start the inning. He got a standing ovation and tipped his helmet to the crowd while standing on first base.

A three-time All-Star shortstop, Rollins has fueled Philadelphia's drive for a playoff berth. The Phillies entered Tuesday 1 1/2 games behind Houston in the NL wild-card standings.

Rollins was 0-for-3 in his first three at-bats. He extended his streak with leadoff homers the previous two games.
