Flushing, NY (Sports Network) - New York Mets reliever Braden Looper will
undergo surgery on his right shoulder Monday, one day after the club's season
finale.
On Thursday, Looper had an MRI which confirmed AC joint arthritis. The
procedure will clean out the joint.
Looper has pitched just one since losing his closer role with the club
following a blown save on September 15. He is in the final year of a two-year,
$6.5 million contract which also has a team option for 2006. It is believed
that the Mets will not pick up that option and Looper will become a free
agent.
The righthander went 4-7 with a 3.94 ERA with 28 saves in 36 chances for New
York this season. In his first season with the Mets, he was 2-5 with a 2.70
ERA and 29 saves.
