Just four games into Alex Smith's career, the NFL's first overall draft pick is now the San Francisco 49ers' main man.
Smith was named the 49ers' starting quarterback Tuesday, ascending to the job after four games as Tim Rattay's backup - and just two days after his first NFL completions.
WOW!!!! Talk about getting thrown in the fire. Here ya go kid you get your first start vs the Colts.
If this was the plan I would have started him last week vs the cards......

Yeah, I agree with you there, Durango.
Let Rattay get his ass beat for one more game.

True dat...
On the Herd this morning he was TOTALLY ripping the 49'er organization for this... What a horrible move by them as he is going against one of the best pass rushers in the NFL and then while he's licking his wounds on the sidelines he gets to watch one of the best NLF QB's in Manning just pick them a part..
This game is gonna be a real confidence booster for him;)

He might be just ducking and chucking. Taking a page out of the Vikings play book.
Ya you got to put the future in a spot where he can build on something. Look at Carr how good was it for him to get his butt beat in the ground that first year? You could grow a Ryan Leaf by just sticking him in where he is going to get waisted his first start. :(
Smith against the Colt's defense. Damn, I wonder who's going to win this one? :laff:
Lol, the Ryan Leaf experiment. That was plain bad. You would think team would learn, right? Jeez, Alex Smith should start against teams like Cardinals or Texans, not against an elite team, especially one with a good defense this year.
