I think NBC Sports made a horrible mistake hiring Mike Emrick as the voice for the NHL. I don't think Emrick is that great. If anything, he is way overrated when he does the Devils games. He is boring and he butchers lot of names. I just don't think he has a clue about the sport. I have no idea what's appealing about Mike Emrick. To me, NBC should have hired Colorado Avalanche PBP guy Doug McLeod as the voice for the NHL games. I think he is the best announcer in hockey. The way he describes the game and calls the game is awesome if anyone got to listen to him. I have watched him do the Coyotes games for years and I got hooked because of him. In fact, he is the reason why I became a hockey fan and I get most of my sayings and my writing from Doug McLeod. I used his sayings on my post here. He is funny as heck. He is entertaining. He knows a lot about the game. He has great antecedotes. Avalanche fans are lucky to hear Doug McLeod. If anyone has NHL Center Ice, watch McLeod call a game. He is that good.
Oh and shame on the Wild for not hiring him. They hired a 28 year old kid to do PBP rather than pay the big bucks to hire McLeod. This just shows me how cheap the Wild are.
