Congratulations to the Houston Astros in defeating the Atlanta Braves in an 18-inning marathon, and advancing to their 4th NLCS in franchise history.

I think the series between the Astros and the Cardianls will go 7 games. The 'Stros should come in with a chip on thier shoulders after last seasons heartbreaking 7 gamne loss against the Cards.

Best of luck Astros!!!

Many people consider the 1986 Game 6 to be the greatest game ever played. Move over game 6 because Game 4 has taken your slot. Unlike that heart breaker, this one saw the good guys win.

ME!!!!! :wavey2:

You know, he just makes it soooooo hard for me to root for the Astros.I have absolutely adored Craig Biggio since forever, and guys like Berkman and Bagwell and Lidge and Backe are so deserving. But that thug just takes all the joy out of it for me. He never even returned the retirement gifts.

Well anyways, good luck to the 'Stros in the NLCS. :)

But that thug just takes all the joy out of it for me. He never even returned the retirement gifts.Thug my ass! Didn't return the retirement gifts my ass! What a load of horse poop! You hate him because he wore a Yankees uniform. He could be Father O'Brien and you and many other disillusioned individuals would still be spewin' hatred for the man because he played for the Yankees at one point in his career. Go rain on someone else's parade.

I don't actually dislike him myself, because he was a Yankee, but moreso because of the 2 incidents he had with Piazza, my favorite player... The 1st one, knocked him out of the A.S. game that year..

But even though I dislike him, I still respect him and appreciate watching him pitch as he is one of top 3 or 4 pitchers IMO to pitch post 1900's....

It certainly was a fun and great game to watch...

As soon as it was over, I made a quick congratulatory phone call to my favorite Astros fan:D

glad clemens was able to make up for his game 2! :) just adds to his lore.

of course, ausmus and burke being so huge is a bit of a shock too!

It was an amazing game. Ausmus and Chavez moving back and forth between 1b and catcher, Viz going from SS to 1B and back to SS, Bruntlett moving from SS to center field, back to SS and then back to CF  Clemens pinch hitting and then throwing 3 innings of relief on two days rest! Wheeler tossing 3 great innings of relief, only one at-bat by a pitcher out of the #9 slot in the batting order and the Braves bull pen going 5 consecutive innings without allowing a hit.

I averaged almost a beer an inning and watched almost the entire game standing up. I just couldn't sit down

Good thing I don't have to work today :coffee

[b]He never even returned the retirement gifts.
Generally, people are referring to the Hummer when they say this. If that's the case here, you need to realize that it wasn't a retirement gift. He got it for winning his 300th game. Maybe you still think he should return it.

Personally, I have no great love for the Rocket. He lost the only ASG I'm ever going to see in person. But he's still a great pitcher.

I averaged almost a beer an inning and watched almost the entire game standing up. I just couldn't sit down  Having to post something over at Astros Daily after the game, I had to hold off until after the marathon to enjoy a drink, then made myself an enormous martini and killed off my Tito's Vodka in the process. Wish I'd known you were off today; we coulda' met in San Marcos for lunch and a little hair of the mutt :)

More interesting stats...Houston used five --- Freakin' five! --- first basemen. Astros also used three LF, CF and SS. Garner said after the game that Jason Lane would've been the next pitcher he used. Clemens would've likely moved to 1B if that had happened!

I listened to just about my entire collection of Haydn Symphonies, plus some Copland. Once I saw the 'talent' ESPN lined up for the contest, the mute button was activated. Sutcliffe should be sent to insomnia clinics to cure those who suffer; geez, but that man can drone on and on.

There must be something in the water for the Astros whenever they make the post-season.Many times, the Astros manage to be in the middle of one of those "Greatest Games Ever Played".

I remember that 1980 NLCS against the Phillies. Those were some of the most heart-stopping games ever played.

And that 1986 Astros-Mets series was equally as dramatic.Billy Hatcher's 15th inning homer off the foul pole to tie the game, and not giving up while going down kicking and screaming.

Here's to more magical moments, and finally,a 1st ever World Series trip. It's been a long time coming for you guys.

Best of luck against St.Louis. :)

Congratulations, Astros fans!! Man, I watched innings 8-18 of that Sunday game. What a CLASSIC! Good luck against the Cards! I'll be cheering for you.

On another note, I say Atlanta should not be allowed to participate in postseason play from now on. They suck too bad in the playoffs and no one takes them seriously anymore.

It has taken me until now to recover from the massive amounts of poison I ingested during that Game 4 - Wow! Congrats to all you fine Astros fans!

Bradley Lidge is truely great, awesome and spectacular! (I heard that somewhere before ;) ) Not bad for a Colorado boy, anyway!

Good luck in the next series!
