Mike Missanelli spent a good part of Tuesday's midday show on WIP-AM (610) apologizing for insulting Eagles kicker David Akers the day before. Mike Miss, who had questioned Akers' hamstring injury, accused him of not being a professional athlete - only a kicker. When Akers responded, Missanelli got personal and called Akers a "girl" and a "drama queen." He then hung up on him, according to the PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER.
Eagles senior vice president Mark Donovan, tipped to the tiff, asked station manager Marc Rayfield for a tape.
Eagles players regularly appear on WIP, and the mood among Akers' teammates - and Missanelli's colleagues, for that matter - was not happy.
Missanelli chalked it up to getting lost in the moment, but realized "immediately" that he'd crossed the line. "I left a message [with Akers and his agent, Gerald Colton] and I offered a sincere apology," Missanelli said in an interview. "I feel bad. I took it to a level that was unprofessional."
Rayfield, saying Missanelli would not be disciplined, called the comments "regrettable, and he was the first to recognize that. He immediately apologized on-air and we hope the matter has been closed to the satisfaction of all parties involved."
Suit up bud and go out there and see where you stand.....
