Wilma grounds Piniella
Lou Piniella's TV career is over - for now.
Piniella was scheduled to join Joe Buck and Tim McCarver in Fox's World Series booth, but the onset of Hurricane Wilma changed his plans.
"Right now, with the hurricane bearing down on Florida he is (home in Tampa) taking care of family," said Fox Sports president Ed Goren. Still, Goren held out hope that Piniella, who joined the network for its ALCS coverage, eventually could return to Fox at some point during the Astros-White Sox matchup.
"It (Hurricane Wilma) could take a hard left or right and miss Florida," Goren said. "If that happens Lou will be joining us when he can."
Goren said Piniella, who once was a studio analyst for the MSG Network when it aired Yankees games, found a solid niche during the ALCS.
"Lou got better and better game after game," Goren said. "It was an intelligent, fun, easy listen. Why stop after (ALCS) Game 5? Let's try and keep Lou's roll going."
