Due to a poor spring -- .184 batting average along with with a team-high 11 strikeouts in 12 games -- the Devil Rays have sent Jared Sandberg to Triple-A Durham and handed the third-base job to Russ Johnson. Sandberg also struggled in his brief stint with the Devil Rays last year, batting .206 in 39 games. "We rushed Jared Sandberg last year," Devil Rays GM Chuck LaMar told the St. Petersburg Times. "We admitted that. ... He came into spring training hoping he might be ready, but, realistically, it didn't work out. It's best for him to go down and continue to get his at-bats and develop." Johnson played sparingly at second and third base last year.
