I can't believe the decisions made today by Bill Cowher. He cost us the game. Sure you could blame Maddox for basically losing us another game all by his lonesome, but he didn't need to be in there. Cowher could have, and should have taken him out at halftime. We had no rhythm on offense; hell, the guys don't even seem to play as well for him as they do the other QB's on the team. They don't block well and they don't catch anything.
ANYBODY else should have been brought in, and I mean anybody. Forget Ben - where was the guy who was impersonating him recently in Pittsburgh to get women? He would have been a significant upgrade. I never want to see Maddox in a game for us again. And if he doesn't take responsibility for this loss (he shrugged it off after the Jacksonvill game), they should cut him (they should cut him anyway). Where was Roethlisberger? If he was ready he should have been in. If he wasn't he shouldn't have been in pads. Whatever the case, I blame Cowher. He should have brought him in in overtime if nothing else, or Randel El.
We had two turnovers that set us up in good field position and we couldn't do anything with them because of play calling and ineptitude at the QB position. What was up with those two calls on third, and then fourth and inches? Where was Bettis? How can you run the option on third, then drop back and get sacked on fourth with him on the team?
Maddox spent most of the game on his back. He can't move. He can't throw. He can't make the right decisions. That's two games that we have lost this season that we would have won if we had a trained chimp on the field instead of "Tommy Gun."
As long as I'm griping, why do we not run the play action? There is no other team in the league with as much of a reputation for running the ball. We don't even have to establish it anymore, they respect it from the beginning and put 8, 9 guys in the box every play. We should run the play action more than anyone else in the league, or AT LEAST don't run the ball up the gut on EVERY first down, especially when everyone and their mother can see the defense is gearing up for it. I can't remember how many times today that I said "don't run the ball, they're all on the line, we're going to get stuffed," and then it would happen. It's ridiculous.
This is the first time in a while that I can remember being really upset with Cowher, because we've been through this once already this season. I wasn't this mad at him after the Jacksonville game because what are you gonna do? Everyone makes mistakes. But he should have known better this time (in regards to Maddox), and not only that but the play calling was atrocious.
