Entering our 23rd year of play in my longest-running league, and our keeper info is due in the next couple of weeks.
Looks like Michael Young (SS), Victor Martinez (C) and Hank Blalock (3B) are three of the five I'll retain.
Sort of whittled the other two slots down to this list (remember, I can only keep two of these):
Francisco Cordero (RP)
Troy Hafner (DH)
Willy Taveras (OF)
Rickie Weeks (2B)
Guess I should give at least outside consideration to Gustavo Chacin (SP), Carlos Silva (SP) and Bill Hall (INF).
I'm leaning towards Weeks and Cordero right now...what do you think? Thanks for the advice.

I'd have to agree with your thinking Willie. Keeping a closer allows you to pick up another one or two in the mid to late rounds to pad your save stats. Hafner is a nice hitter but in a lot of leagues he will only qualify at DH, so if that's the case in your league he will leave you a little strapped. BTW, I like Weeks a lot.

Hafner will indeed qualify only at DH, at least to start our 2006 season. I might keep him over Weeks if Hafner could also fill the 1B slot.
Thanks, Dale. Hope your 'Horns kick the dog poop outta' the Buffy's :smokin:
I have to agree. I like keeping a closer, if the price is right. At least they are somewhat predictable.
Hafner only being DH eligable hurts his value as a keeper.
Weeks has strong potential at a weak position.
I wouldn't look too hard at any of the last three. Toronto is overhauling their rotation, so Chacin' role isn't a sure thing. Silva had a career year, but until the Twins add soem offense, he'll be challenged to win a lot of games - plus if you count K's he doesn't help. Hall isn't that special in my eyes.
Good luck

Cordero is a definite IMO... I assume you are referring to Travis Hafner, right? Hell, his #'s are good enoughwhere I would bite the bullet even if he only qualifies at DH and I would make him my 5th keeper...
Taveras would be another I would consider if you are against holding on to a DH only... Good for the runs, hits and stolen bases catagories...

We use an 11-category scoring system:
AVG, Runs, RBI, SB, HR
Wins, Saves, ERA, WHIP, K/BB
Errors
Silva's low BB total made him fairly valuable in the K/BB ratio.......does anyone know how Weeks is progressing after the thumb ligament surgery? That's a concern for me right now.

Anyone have any info on Eric Gagne? There's a chance he'll be leftover for me to claim, but I'm not sure when he might be coming back???

Ok, so it looks like a few relievers are going to be left on the open market...who would you keep from this list:
C.Cordero, WAS
F.Cordero, TEX
BJ.Ryan, TOR
That's tough - Ryan is going to be the man in Toronto and they will have too much invested to even think about replacing him even if the going gets tough. C. Cordero had a great year in 2005 but I don't know why, I'm nervous about a dropoff. F. Cordero is on a team that is going to score lots of runs, but how many close wins they get is up in the air.
At this point, I'd probably choose Ryan

Agreed. Ryan would be the best choice of the three.
