OAKLAND -- Thanks to Huston Street and Dan Johnson, the A's are one of three teams with two players on the 47th Annual Topps Major League Rookie All-Star team that was announced Thursday morning.

Better still, Street and Johnson were both unanimous selections in the voting done by big-league managers, making the A's one of two teams with a pair of across-the-board winners. The Blue Jays, with left-handed pitcher Gustavo Chacin and shortstop Russ Adams, were the other such club, while the Braves also placed outfielder Jeff Francoeur and catcher Brian McCann on the 10-man team.

Postseason honors are old hat to Street, who swept the three major American League rookie awards and was named as the right-handed pitcher on the Topps team. Johnson, however, is being honored for the first time this winter, and it has to be viewed as something of an upset victory for the first baseman.

Not only did Johnson not appear on a single ballot in the Baseball Writers' Association of America's voting for the top AL rookie, but the man he beat handily for the Topps honor, Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard, was last week named the BBWAA's National League Rookie of the Year.

Like Howard, who batted .288 with 22 homers, 63 RBIs, a .357 on-base percentage and a .567 slugging percentage in 88 games this season, Johnson spent part of the year at Triple-A.

After being called up in late May, Johnson, 26, made a team-leading 98 starts at first base, batting .275 with 15 homers and 58 RBIs in 109 games. His .355 on-base percentage ranked second among AL rookies, his 50 walks tied for second and his .451 slugging clip ranked third.

Street, 22, led Major League rookies with 23 saves to set an Oakland rookie record and, despite not taking over the closer's role until late May, his save total tied for seventh most by an AL rookie and fourth most by a player 22 years old or younger. He converted 23 of 27 (85.2 percent) save opportunities, including all 18 after the All-Star break.

Overall, Street was 5-1 with a 1.72 ERA. His ERA was second only to Yankees closer Mariano Rivera among AL relievers and third best in A's history based on a minimum of 70 innings pitched.
