Yeah, in 04. He was god awful in 05. I liked him too though. Either Shoppach will catch Wake, or they grab another back-up I guess.

I was just going to ask who was going to catch Wake.

I'll miss Mirabelli. I liked him a lot.

Well Loretta better than Cora and Bellhorn. Is Pedroia going to back up?

I'm not sure what to think about the deal. I think this close the book on Tony coming back to Boston at this point. It's hard to see Doug to leave, but if this is the best interest of the team, then I guess it will fly. I know this is good for Doug since I assume he'll be starting as catcher out in San Diego. Doug has the ability to be a start, so he'll get his shot at last.

Let's look at Loretta. Loretta missed a few games last year with injuries, but still manage an decent 280. batting average along with 360. OBP. So, I must say, we are getting a very decent and possible good 2B. Remember, Loretta did hit a great 335. in 2004. I think he has the chance to bounce back and put up great numbers against in friendly Fenway Park. We'll see what happen.

I'm still in between for this deal to be honest.

Man, I liked 'Belli. Bummer to see him go. He was a very solid backup. I hope he does well in San Diego.

I'm not too familiar with Loretta. His numbers look decent enough...better than Graffanino.

The Sox got themselves a very solid 2B. Good with the glove, and a career .300 hitter. Nobody has ever heard of him, since he played for the Brewers and the Padres.

I'm pissed that he is gone, but at least it was to the Sox and not the Yanks.

Yeah, noone outside of Milwaukee and San Diego know about MLo but I noticed him as the Brewers starting SS in '99 and this was before his injuries. He was SOLID. He is a very good #2 hitter, moving runners over, very aware of game situations and will hit a fly ball if it's needed or hit to the right side or just make the defense do things to allow the runner ahead of him steal a base. And those stats are not shown in his "numbers". He is a great clubhouse guy, taking to new guys and helping them out. He's looking forward to playing in the northeast and in particular for such a team with a rich history. Boston fans will fall in love with him after watching him play day after day.

He was the Padres '03 and '04 Team MVP.

My understanding is Loretta is Bill Mueller.

Yeah, you should definitely be happy about this trade.. In addition to the things others has said, he is one of baseball's "good-guys" and a great pressence in the clubhouse... Probably will be a MLB coach someday...

Loretta's a solid, solid addition. He's a strong #2 hitter and offers a dependable glove in the field. Also, as James mentioned, he's a wonderful clubhouse presense. Excellent move for the 'Sox -- and it only cost us a 35-year-old backup catcher. Lovin' it.
