I want to eat crow here. I thought this team was going to be a very bad team. I had them at 26 wins to start the season. They had a horrible preseason and they did not look good to start the season. They were up and down and they did not look good when they won or lost. Fortunately, something clicked when the Wolves went to the West Coast sojourn last Friday as they played the Lakers, Kings, Jazz, and the Trail Blazers. It was something like two years ago where everyone was playing well. Wally Sczerbiak is starting to play like everyone expects him to play. He is hitting his shots from the outside. He has played good defense. He is just playing with a lot of confidence. Marko Jaric has really come into his own lately. Troy Hudson has rebounded from a horrible season last year. Eddie Griffin is really establishing himself into a very good shot-blocker and he has come into his own offensively. Olowokandi has done a decent job which is very good for his standard.

I am very impressed with Dwane Casey, who is the new Timberwolves head coach. This is his first year as the head man of the team. So far so good. His team play for him. KG clearly respects him which to me is very important. He has done a great job having his team prepared night in and night out. He never seems to get outcoached. He has been as great as advertised. IMO, he is the coach of the year. I am so glad he was hired over P.J. Carlesimo, who was Kevin McHale's first choice till KG made a stink about it.

The team has started to do well because the supporting cast has done a very good job. Can they sustain it all season? That's a million dollar question. If they do, I think they can go to the Western Conference Finals, but that's a big if. I don't bank on that happening. Wally Sczerbiak keeping this up every night is as hard as that scrub, Matthew Lecroy hitting HRs for the Twins every night.

I think the Wolves will be a playoff team, but be done in the first round. If all things go right though, they could be back in the Western Conference Finals. God I hope it happens because with the way the Twins 2006 is shaping up, I am not in any rush to watch them play this season so I hope the Wolves can go as far as they can till Vikings begin training camp.

I think Casey was a good choice as coach for this team. They will have to free up some cap space over the next couple years, but if they do, they should be a pretty strong team with him as the coach and KG as the star.
