Encarcanion signed with the Cards and Troy Glaus is reportedly going to the Blue Jays along with a prospect for Miguel Batista and Orlando Hudson. Guess Littlefield doesn't feel like a similar package for 35HR and 100RBI (and a $10m salary) is worth it. Can't say I agree. I get the sinking feeling Eric Byrnes and Joe Randa are going to be the "big bats" the Pirates end up with.

I do not think Encarcion was ever in the picture. I think Glaus was still too much money for the Bucco's at this point. I am not sure they ever even considered him very hard. He may have been a nice addition though. Littlefiled has stated that he will not mind if he starts the season with Sanchez at third, but he hoped to upgrade with someone or add a right fielder. They still might make a trade, but I bet they just add a Byrnes or Randa like you stated and use them off of the bench.

I wonder if the Buccos might go after Shea Hildebrand (or howver you spell it) now that the Jays got Glaus. With Koskie and Glaus there I cant see the Jays keeping all three.
