Well, I think the big blow, though expected, of Damon signing with Damon has passed. There has been rumor about the Red Sox gain much interest in Kevin Milwood, a free agent and the leader in the AL ERA at the end of the season. Milwood would be plug in as the number three starter behide Beckett and Schilling and this will allow the Red Sox to deal one, two or three of the starting pitcher in Arroyo, Clement and Wells.
Speculation is one or two of the pitchers, probably Arroyo and Clement, could be shipped to Arizona along with other players to bring Glaus to Boston to play 1B, though I would prefer Ortiz out on 1B and Glaus DH. Glaus has been a hot topic and the Blue Jays have been confirmed more than the Red Sox to be closer to nailing Glaus down. The Jays would only part with their last year closer Batista and part with Gold Glove 2B Hudson, who's mostly know for his glove, not his bat and they would also part with a prospect. So, our division rivals are trying to pry Glaus to their team and we know how troublesome that will be. :ugh:
So, what is the next move for the team?
I would love to bring Glaus' bat into Fenway, but it look like the Blue Jays will get him. Be cool if we sneaked in and took him for ourselves. While I like Milwood, they're going to over-pay for him. Every team over-paying for any type of pitcher consider the short amount of pitching.
Centerfield and lead-off need to be address. You would bring Lugo in from Tampa to bat lead-off and get some center-field like Wilson or bring Gathright to lead-off and play center-field next season. Here's a list of possible replacements at this current time. Oh, forget Hunter, we know that's not happen any longer. :(
Jeremy Reed - With Lawton sign with the M's, this is become the more probable deal happen.
Coco Crisp - Still alive, but the Indians have said they'll likely keep Crisp. They don't need starting pitching, which we have a surplus of and can part, so don't expect him coming here either. :(
Dave Roberts - Probably standing put from what Padres GM Towers said by announce him their starting left field for next season.
Joey Gathright - Probably right up there with Reed as the Sox starting CF for 2006 and possible lead-off man.
Corey Patterson - Do we even want them to gamble with Patterson?
Preston Wilson - I don't see him coming at all unless Lugo on the team or another hitter the Red Sox plan to use as lead-off hitter.
That's about all I see for center-field. I don't like many of the options, if I had to choose today, I go with the very fast Gathright over Reed.
As for shortshop, I think it will either be Lugo or Gonzalez. I like Lugo more for a number 2 hitter. He would be a nice addition, despite his personal issues. Gonzalez will give us a Gold Glove level shortstop. I don't see OC coming back while Gonzalez is on the market. They're both Gold Glove level shortshop and not that much different with the bat. Only difference is you have to give up players to get OC, so I don't see the cool OC coming back at this point. :(
A few months to go still. We'll see what the team would do. Right now, I do not like all ''If'' we have with our team. From Manny's crap to Damon bailing. Management has really dropped the ball and it's really showing this offseason. Something must be done about management, because management is making playing for Boston very unappealing, which would keep players away from Boston.
Anyway, that's it for my long thought on the Red Sox. :laff:
