Holiday wish list for the Bronx and Flushing
Dec 20, 2005
We have our list. We've checked it twice. We know everybody who has been Steinbrenner and nice.
Met fans are feeling the thrill of a large bounty at this time of year, with the introduction of Carlos Delgado and Billy Wagner. Yet they are still looking beneath their tree for a Ramirez, Zito or a set-up man who can dependably get the ball to Wagner.
Yankee fans are feeling an unaccustomed emptiness, wondering where all the familiar, high-end presents are. It has just become habitual to pull back the gift-wrapping in the Bronx and unveil a Sheff, A-Rod or Big Unit. It makes Kyle Farnsworth feel like a lump of coal. (*Editor's Note: This was before the Yankees reportedly reached an agreement with Johnny Damon on a four-year, $52 million deal.)
But enough of the fans' desires. We are here to fulfill the requests of the movers, shakers and players in New York baseball:
Anna Benson: Tact, class and the other half of that Mrs. Santa Claus outfit.

Kris Benson: A muzzle.

Alex Rodriguez: A home country, the ability not to care what other's think as much as he tells us he does not care and an October that does not end with him explaining why next year will be different.

Randy Johnson: To improve his disposition by becoming as loveable as Kevin Brown.

Carlos Delgado: To be asked more about standing ovations at Shea rather than whether he will be standing or not for God Bless America.

Carlos Beltran: Never to be compared to Bobby Bonilla, George Foster or Roberto Alomar again.

Omar Minaya: The same thing he has wanted for Christmas for years; Manny Ramirez, what else?

Pedro Martinez: No questions that include, Are you worried that your fastball was only 84 mph?

Tom Glavine: A winning season as a Met.
