From the Pirates Web site. Eldred has been sent home as Mazatlan dropped him from their play-off roster. Bautista and DeCaster have done pretty well.

Several other members of the Bucs' 40-man roster are also participating in winter ball play, with mixed results:

Slugging first baseman Brad Eldred is batting .211 with one double, nine strikeouts and one walk in 38 at-bats with Mazatlan of the Mexican Pacific League.

Third baseman Jose Bautista, the organization's 2005 Minor League Player of the Year, has hit .260 with eight home runs and 26 RBIs in 44 games with Licey of the Dominican Winter League.

Catcher Ronny Paulino has batted .250 with five doubles and nine RBIs in 36 games with Azucareros in the Dominican.

Infielder Yurnedell DeCaster has performed well in the Venezuelan Winter League. In 60 games with Oriente, DeCaster has batted .325 with 17 home runs and 47 RBIs and 11 stolen bases.

Right-hander Ian Snell, who will compete for the fifth spot in the Pittsburgh starting rotation this spring, has gone 1-1 with a 5.27 ERA, 10 strikeouts and four walks in three appearances (13 2/3 IP) with Oriente.
