:D I am liking this underdog thing. Being the favorite hasnt worked in the past in the playoffs for us. Maybe this will help. I can only hope.

Man had a hard time with this game. Steelers are looking good after last week. Ben is healty which he wasnt last time.
Colts havnt played a game all out for the past month so there is going to be some rust.
But it is a home game and so that is going to be tough for the Steelers.
A good game I think and I will be rooting for the Steelers also but I picked the Colts to win in the pick-um.

If the Steelers win this game, their my pick to win the Superbowl.
There way too many variable for me to say who will win this game though. It's really hard for me to say that Indy is a shoe-in though like most people are saying.

Shad, you do realize that the Steelers have played better on the road than at home this season, right?? :)

I picked Indy, but I will not be shocked to see Pittsburgh win.
If the Redskins win, I'll be shocked.

Ya I do Shawn. It has been like that for the past few years in playoff games hasnt it?
To sum it up is what Babs said. I picked Indy but wouldnt be shocked also.

If I were picking based on the spread, I would definitely pick Pittsburgh...I think people are putting way too much stock in the outcome of their regular season meeting.
I don't know if we can actually beat them outright, but those who think the Steelers are going to be blown out are sorely mistaken.
Shawn, Merril Hoge picked us and so did theisman (not that i trust theisman). I agree, the underdog role is better for us. Usually when everybody is picking us I assume we're doomed anyway.

how relieved do you think the bus is feeling right now?

I really can't see Denver or Seattle beating them. Chicago or Carolina is their biggest threat, but i still cant see either beating them.
Pittsburgh vs Chicago is my pick to meet here in a couple of weeks.

It was an even up call on that false start which allowed Pitt to run of a couple more minutes. Indy should have had the ball back way before.
Good game, man I feel bad for Vandy.

no it wasnt an even up call. there was that huge pass interference non call in the first half. The refs were bad, period.

I'm glad Bettis doesn't possibly end his career on that sour note. I still llove that guy.
The Steelers deserved to win. They got the short end of some poor officiating.
Yo SHAWN and DAN.....congrats, guys. I hope Pitt beats Denver.

It would be cool to see Jerome finally win the Superbowl in his home town. Too bad Plax can't say the same.

First of all, I'd like to tell everybody that thought we were going to get demolished...thank you very much.
My life flashed before my eyes on that play where Bettis fumbled Shawn. I swear to God, I thought about Bettis possibly ending his career that way before the play was even over. It would have been horrible, but the defense held up once again (in no small part to Bryany McFadden's terriffic play on Wayne in the end zone).
That stand they made before the fumble would have went down in legend if we had shoved it in the end zone there to end it. I can't remember the defense playing this well. They were dominant against the best offense in the league. Just incredible.
I would like to point out that Manning did not get hurt, no one got hurt, the bad calls all went against us, and the game wasn't even as close as the final score looked, not to take anything away from Indy, who played with a ton of heart to even make it a game.
The Polumalu call was aweful. I'm glad Boomer was saying what was right after the game, that we deserve an apology from the NFL for that call, which is what I was saying right after it happened.
I'm done for now, except to predict that Denver isn't going to be able to stop us.

I hate the Colts, but I was hoping Vanderjagt would hit that FG and win in OT so that the Steelers could be Clevelandized 80s style.

Congrats to the Steelers for beating the Colts and the Referees.
I just knew that the "idiot kicker" would miss the field goal as soon as they showed the stat that he hadn't missed at home all year.
Anyways, go beat the Broncos so the annoying fans will shut up (I live in Denver these days).

Oh, you live in Denver? Cool, so do I. I'm originally from Pittsburgh, though. :D
Big Ben had the biggest play in this game when he made that tackle after Bettis' fumble. :D
Great game. The Steelers are intend contenders, while the Colts showed they were pretenders. Looking at it, it was still a good game. I won't bash the Colts or give much of an excuse on their side either. Good game played by both sides and the Steelers came out in top. They might be a six seed, but we know they're far better than a six seed. ;)

Maybe if Harper wasn't stabbed in the knee the night before he would have taken that to the house. :notme:
And Rockin: Yeah but still, I think it was an even up call for that missed false start. They NEVER miss false starts. Except for in the biggests games of the year, Den-NE, Ind-Pit

Thanks Datch, we appreciate the support.
By the way, I wasn't impressed with Denver the other night, I thought the Pats outplayed them a lot of the time. If that's all they got, they're in trouble.
Also, did anybody notice that Cowher looked more upset in his post-game press conference than Dungy did? That's probably a good thing for us though...we have a history of blowing these AFC championship games.

right after the fumble, i found myself sitting on the floor of the Steeler bar in tears. I was an absolute emotional WRECK by the time the game ended. IN the bar, there must have been at least FOUR wild celebrations where we thought the game was finished.
Being able to overcome two INTs that were not allowed, a safety that shoul dhave been and a pass interference call were HUGE for this team.
I hate shannon sharpe, but he had the line of the year in the postgame show. He said "That was a horrible call that Archie Manning... .err.. i mean Pete Morelli made in overturning the interception by Troy."
Classic stuff. Now I am going to go see if i can get those years back to my life that I lost.

yeah, I agree! I mean, looking at the stats without the score, you'd think the patriots won until you got to the turnovers, you know?
Now who knows whether the broncos played their best game of the season against the pats. But hold on to the ball and you have a great chance of beating them I think.

Yeah, we were screaming like there was no tomorrow when we made the sack on 4th and 16. There was a good article in the post-gazette today about the defense was on the sidelines celebrating when they heard Lebeau start screaming they had to go back out.
I was about to burst into tears until Ben made that tackle, then I was biting all my fingernails off during the rest of the game.
I hope Porter tells them where they can stick the fine he's about to get too. They deserve to be called out in the media after that game they called. The turned over interception was the worst, but the pass interference they missed against Randel El was really just as bad (just not as big a play).

I expect the Broncos to play a little better at least, because you're right, looking at the stats, they were outplayed.
They're probably going to be a little better, but Anderson hardly had any running game going at all, and if they can't run against us, we're going to blitz Plummer like we did Manning.

that's one thing...the patriots hardly ever blitzed, it's just not their thing, so they didn't get pressure on plummer at all. He was in the pocket nice and comfortable for most of the game.
The pats took away the running game from denver, and plummer was forced to throw, and he met the challenge...somewhat. He wasn't spectacular by any stretch of the imagination. He had under 200 yards throwing with an interception. Definately not enough to win a game.

im not saying that it was and i think taking into account the camera angle it may have been... my only problem with it was that they did not even take the time to look at it.

Yeah, it did look close live but the replays showed he was on like the half yard line or whatever..

01-16-2006, 10:11 PM
you mean the replays that the refs never bothered to look at? haha. I know that the play would have had to be challenged... but the thing I am saying aout the replays is that those "goal line" cameras are actually at about the 1/2 yard line... so what appeared from those cameras to be at the 1/2 yard line may have actually been in the endzone. I think that cowher realized we were getting hosed by the officials, t hough, and didnt want to lose the timeout.

I felt so bad for Tony Dungy after the loss yesterday. That was my initial reaction after the Colts had their latest, dissapointing playoff loss. What did Tony deserve this? He is such a class act.. He is one of the nicest guys in professional sports. To see him go through is not fair. It's bad enough that he lost his son to suicide few weeks ago. Now this. This is why sports can be so cruel. I always wonder why bad guys win in sports and nice guys lose. It's frustrating and it stinks. It makes you wonder why you follow sports. I wanted to see Dungy win it all after what he went through. Even before his son's death, I wanted to see Tony win it all after the way he was forced out in Tampa Bay. It really does stinks. It's a shame people on ripping him for not preparing his team and such, but that ain't his fault. I thought he did a good job preparing his team. To me, it came down to Peyton and Vanderjagt coming up lame as usual in a postseason game not Tony Dungy. Those two should get all the criticism that they should get.
Peyton came up lame as usual in the postseason. Sure he did great in the fourth quarter, but what about the first three quarters. This was simply a horrible performance from him. He did not play very well. He did not throw very well. He did not look sharp at all. It's just wasn't his day, but then again when is it his day in the postseason. It's just business as usual with him. It has to be frustrating him that he failed again. He has no one to blame but himself. I don't know what it is, but he just does not get it done in the postseason. I thought being at home would have helped him and his offense, but it just didn't worked out. This was as bad as Peyton playing bad against the Jets several years ago at Giants Stadium. What can you say? You just hae to wonder if he has it in him to do well in big games or if he ever will one.
Vikings fans love to kill Daunte for coming up lame. Could you imagine the outcry if Peyton came up lame in the postseason? Vikings fans sure love to ride their QBs pretty hard so it would be interesting if Peyton came up lame as the Vikings QB.
Mike Vanderjagt is the anti-Vinateri. He has come up lame in the postseason forever. Yesterday was just another chapter of his horrible postseason legacy. I know that FG position was probably tough to make, but with a great leg and accuracy that he possessed, he should have found a way to get it done. This is just typical Vanderjagt. I recalled him stinking it up against the Patrots in a postseason game. How about when he missed the GW Field Goal against the Dolphins several years ago? He hasn't exactly been Mr. Reliable come postseason so he gets as much criticism as Peyton. I like to feel bad for Vanderjagt, but I don't since he opened his mouth against Peyton and Dungy few years ago. He deserved what he is getting.
Steelers simply played a great game all around. Their defense was huge. Their DL simply dominated the OL all day long which is why they were able to blitz Peyton a lot. Colts running game was not a factor. Steelers cornerbacks did a great job against the Colts receivers. How about Reggie McFadden denying Reggie Wayne a catch to score the GW TD? That was huge along with Big Ben's tackle to prevent the Colts from scoring the game winning touchdown. Steelers were able to get the fumble from the Colts and intereceptions. Dick Lebeau and Bill Cowher put on a great gameplan to stop the Colts high-wire offense.
What a game by Big Ben. He was simply feeling it especially in the first quarter. He did a great job finding the open man and using the whole field. He orchestrated the offense very well. This was as great as you are going to see from a quarterback. He did everything that Peyton wish he could have done yesterday. Just a brilliant performance. He put on a great show and then some with that tackle. Steelers fans are going to be so lucky to see Ben do his thing for many years to come.
I am glad that Jerome Bettis did not have to go through living that fumble anymore. It would have been a crappy way to end a great career like that. He is such a class act and all so I am glad he does not have not to go through it.
Steelers deserved to win this game. They played like a better team yesterday.
As for the Colts, it's the same old song. You really have to wonder if Peyton will ever be a postseason champion. The same with Vanderjagt.
