Jose Conteras and Jon Garland were as sharp as theyt culd have been for a spring opener,but colrado pitching held the White Sox offense to 3 hits as the Sox dropped thier Cactus League opener 6-1 to the Colorado Rockies in Tucson.

THE GOOD;Rob Macowiak and Jermaine Dye had the only sox hits by the starters this afternoon.OF prospect Jerry Owens tripled and scored in the 9th.

Contreras gave up a run on 4 hits and struck out 2 in 3 innings work.Garland also gave up a run on 2 hits in 3 innings.7 of his 9 outs recorded were ground balls.

THE BAD;Rockies pitching retired 19 straight Sox hitters until Owens' 9th inning triple.

Lefty Charles Hager allowed 3 unearned runbs in the 9th inning.

For the Rox,Todd Helton smacked 2 doubles while C Danny Ardion homered in the game.

Arizona took advantage of Freddy Garcia's 3rd inning wildness as they scotred 3 times off him in the 3rd inning and never looked back as the D-backs took a 9-2 win against a White Sox split squad team at Tucson Electric Park this afternoon.

THE GOOD;LF Ryan Sweeney was 2-4 and 3B Josh Fields was 2-3 with a double and a home run.Neal Cotts retired the only 3 men he faced in the 4th inning.P Paulino Reynoso walked 2 in the 5th,but held the Snakes scoreless.

THE BAD;Freddy Garcia walked 3 batters in the 3rd inning,leading to 2 Arizona runs.Jeff Bajaneru was torched for 4 runs on 4 hits in the 9th inning.Joe Borchard was 0-4 and the sox left 11 men stranded.

Javier Vazquez was solid in his White Sox debut,pitching 3 scoreless innings,giving up 2 hits and striking out 2.But the Split Sox dropped thier 2nd straight to the Rox at Tucson's Hi Corbett Field by a 8-1 count.

THE GOOD; Rob Macowiak went 2-3 with a double and an RBI.closer Bobby Jenks retired all 3 men he faced in the game.

THE BAD; P Tim Redding gave up a 3-run homer to Rockies prospect Jeff Baker in the 5th inning.

The White Sox dropped to 0-4 in Cactus League play as they dropped a 13-6 decision to the Arizona Diamondbacks in Tucson this afternoon.Arizona had 18 hits in the contest.

THE GOOD; Juan Uribe and Jermaine Dye each clubbed thier 1st homers of the spring in a 3-run 4th inning.

Dye also threw out 2 baserunners from RF in the game

THE BAD; Mark Buehrle was touched up for 3 runs on 5 hits in 2 innings of work.Dustin Hermansen allowed a run on 2 hits in 1 inning in his 2006 spring debut.Cliff Politte gave up 2 homers for 3 runs in 1 inning of relief.

ON DECK; Brandon McCarthy will make his '06 debut tomorrow against the D-Backs against former teammate and '05 post-season hero Orlando "El Duque" Hernandez (1:05pm CT,WGN-TV).

For the 2nd straight game,the Arizona diamondbacks rung up the White Sox for 13 runs on 18 hits as the Sox dropped a 13-2 game to drop thier spring record to 0-5.

THE GOOD; The Sox pounded out a team high 11 hits in the game.Paul Konerko went 2-3 in the game,while OF Joe Borchard went 2-2.

Reliever Tim Redding pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball giving up 4 hits and striking out 1.

THE BAD; The Sox committed 3 errors in the game,and left 11 men stranded.

Starter Brandon McCarthy admittedly did not have his best stuff out there today,gave up 2 runs,1 earned on 4 hits in 2 innings of work.McCarthy did not strike out a batter.

Knuckle ball reliever Charles Haegar was touched for 5 runs,1 earned in the 6th inning.

COMIC RELIEF; In the Arizona 6th,1B Matt Morgan hit a chopper to Konerko at 1st.The ball took a strange hop and konerko misplayed the hop and the ball landed in his jersey.

A White Sox rally fell short in the 9th inning as the Sox dropped to 0-6 in Cactus League play with a 6-5 loss to Arizona at Tucson this afternoon.The Sox rallied for 2 runs in the 8th,nad 2 in the 9th,but it was not enough.

THE GOOD; Starter Jose Contreras gave up a run on 5 hits in 3 innings of work.He worked out of a 1 out,runners at the corners jam in the 1st inning by striking out Connor Jackson swinging and Damion Easley looking.

CF Brian Anderson tripled and scored in the 3rd inning.

THE BAD; Once again,Sox pitching gave up 10+ hits in the game.

The World Champs finally got off the schnied this afternoon as they doubled up on the Colorado Rockies 4-2 at Hi Corbett field in Tucson.

THE GOOD; LF Ryan Sweeney clubbed his 1st homer of the season,a solo shot in the 7th inning.Pablo Ozuna's 2-run siingle in the 6th put the sox in front for good in the 6th.

Starter Jon Garland pitched 3 scoreless innings,giving up a hit.Cliff Politte was the winner in the game.

Sweeney and AJ Pierzynski each had 2 hits in the game.

THE BAD; Dustin Hermansen gave up a run on 3 hits in the 4th inning.

The White Sox teed off on Oakland pitching to the tune of 5 home runs in an 8-5 win over the A's in Tucson this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Chris Widger blasted 2 homers in the game.Ryan Sweeney hit his 2nd homer of the spring,Paul Konerko went deep,and Darren Blakely lost one.Jim Thome reached base 3 times on a hit and 2 walks,He also scored twice.Konerko went 2-3 with 4 RBIs.

Mark Buehrle started off with 3 perfect innings,striking out 4 batters,then.....

THE BAD; Buehrle was torched for 4 runs on 4 hits in the 4th inning.3 of the runs were unearned because of an erroe by Tadahito Iguchi.

The White Sox offense was stymied by Ervin Santana and Angels pitching in Tempe this afternoon as the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim took a 5-2 decision against the White Sox in thier first meeting since last October's ALCS.

THE GOOD; Rob Mackowiak went 1-2 with a run scored.

THE BAD; The Sox only collected 4 hits in the game.Starter Dustin Hermansen allowed a lead-off homer to Chone Figgans in the 1st inning.

Last year's #1 pick Lance Broadway allowed 2 runs,all earned, on 3 hits,walking a batter in 2 innings of work.

The White Sox turned on the power as they clubbed 4 homers off Seattle pitching as they downed the Mariners 10-3 at Tucson Electric Park this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Ryan Sweeney,Ross Gload,Josh Fields,and Darren blakely all went deep for the Sox in the game.For Sweeney,his blast was his team leading 3rd of the spring.That ties him with fields,who also belted his 3rd of the spring.

Jim Thome tripled for the 1st time in God knows how long.He smoked one off the high center field wall.

Brandon McCarthy had a solid outing as he gave up 2 runs in 4 innings of work.He struck out 3 and walked 1,despite having location problems in the 1st inning.He gave up a home run to Sox killer Raul Ibanez in the 1st inning.

LHP Paulino Reynoso struck out 2 batters in 2 scoreless innings of relief.

ON DECK; The Sox will host Barry Bonds and the San Francisco Giants at 2:05 Chicago time(CSN Chicago).Jose Contreras will make the start for the Sox.

The White Sox got off to a fast start,but could hold off a late San Francisco rally as the Sox dropped an 11-6 contest to the Giants in Tucson on Friday afternoon.

THE GOOD; Joe Borchard hit his first home run of the spring, an opposite-field blast in the second inning off Brad Hennessey. Paul Konerko doubled home a run in the third, and Jermaine Dye followed with a run-scoring single.

Jose Contreras continued his strong push toward the 2006 regular season, allowing one run on five hits over four innings of work. The most important statistics for Contreras, though, were his five strikeouts and third straight start without issuing one walk.

THE BAD; White Sox relievers couldn't stay away from the big inning,allowing 5 runs to score in the 5th inning,and 4 more in the 9th.

The White Sox dropped a 6-1 decision to an Angels "B" squad in Tucson this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Mark Buehrle was in mid-season form this afternoon as he gave up 2 hits in 4 innings of work as he worked a lightning fast 57 minutes this afternoon.

Brian Anderson,Juan Uribe,and Tadahito Iguchi each had a hot in the game.

THE BAD; Releiver Dustin Hermansen gave up 3 runs on 4 hits in 1+ inning of work.Tim Redding also gave up 3 runs in his 1 inning of work.

The White Sox overcame a 7-0 deficit to temporarily take the lead late in the game,but could not hold off a 9th inning A's rally as the Sox dropped a 9-8 heartbreaker in Phoenix this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Jim Thome reached base 5 times going 4-4 with a walk in the game.Joe Borchard went 2-5 with a double in the 7th inning,and a 3-run bomb to key a 6-run 8th inning.

21-year-old Brook Logan continues to impress by throwing 2 innings of shutout ball giving up just 1 hit.

Lance Broadway and Rat Liotta each pitched a scoreless inning.

THE BAD; Starter Charles Haegar was smoked for 6 runs,5 earned in 1 2/3 innings on the hill.The knuckler walked 4 in his outing.

Lefty reliever Heath Phillips took the loss,going 1 1/3 innings and giving up Charles Thomas' 2-run walk-off single to give the A's the win.Phillips walked 3 batters.

White Sox pitchers gave 8 free passes in the game.

The White Sox dropped a 12-5 decision to the Arizona Diamondbacks in Tucson this afternoon.The Sox are now 3-11 in Cactus League play,and 0-5 vs. hot hitting Arizona this spring.

THE GOOD; Jerry Owens went 2-4 hitting leadoff in the game.ross gload was 2-2 with 2RBIs,while Chris Widger belted his 3rd homer of the spring.

THE BAD; Brandon McCarthy struggled in this game,giving up 4 runs,all earned on 7 hits in 3 2/3 innings of work.

Arizona came into the game hitting .370 as a team this spring.

The White Sox suffered another 9th inning meltdown this afternoon as the saw a 2 run 9th inning lead evaporate in a 7-6 loss to the host Colorado Rockies at hi Corbett Field in Tucson.

THE GOOD;Jermaine Dye hit his second homer of the season, a two-run shot to left in the top of the third, giving the White Sox a brief lead. Joe Borchard was 2-for-3 with an RBI single, a double, and a sacrifice fly. Darren Blakely hit an RBI double in the ninth.

Starter Neal Cotts,who replaced late scratch Jose Contreras,allowed only a lead-off homer to corey Sullivan in the 1st inning.He went 2 innings striking out 3 rockies.

Boone Logan had another superb outing,allowing only a hit in 1 2/3 inning of work.

THE BAD; Bobby Jenks gave up his 1st runs of the spring as he gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and 3 walks in the 3rd inning.Dwayne Pollok gave up 3 runs on 4 straight doubles with 1 out in the bottom of the 9th to give the Rox a come from behind win.

ON DECK; An off day for the Sox before Mark Buehrle toes the rubber against Texas on St.Patrick's Day.

The White Sox saw another late inning lead go down the drian as the Texas Rangers scored 3 runs in the 9th inning to defeat the Sox 10-9 in Tucscon this afternoon;

THE GOOD; Josh Fields came through with the go-ahead double in the eighth, capping a White Sox rally after trailing by five runs through six innings. Jermaine Dye hit his third home run of the spring, a long blast to left off of Juan Dominguez, caught by one of the fans in the stands. A.J. Pierzynski delivered his first home run, crushing a Dominguez offering to right, and added a single in the seventh.

SS Robert Valido went 2-2 in the game.

THE BAD; Mark Buehrle went 5 innings,giving up 7 runs,3 of those unearned on 9 hits while striking out 5.

Reliever Augustin Montero gave up 3 runs in the 9th inning,with Laynce nix' go-ahead 2-run shot being the biggest blow.

Joe Crede's 4-4 day lead a 16-hit attack and propelled the Sox to a 9-3 beatdown of the Cubs in Tucson this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Crede got his 1st jack of the season off Cubs starter Glendon Rusch in the 1st inning.It was a 2-run blast in a 4-run.Crede also finished with 4 RBIs.

Jim Thome and Alex Cintron each had 2 hits apiece.For Cintron,he was 2-4 in his White Sox debut after returning from the WBC.Pablo Ozuna went 2-4 himself in the game.

Brian Anderson connected for his 1st bomb of the spring in the 8th inning.

Javier Vazquez went 4 1/3 innings,allowing 3 runs on 6 hits,striking out 6 Cubs.

The bullpen of Brandon McCarthy(1 2/3 innings),Boone Logan(1 IP),Neal Cotts(1 IP,1 walk),and Bobby Jenks(1 IP,1 walk) held the Cubs hitless the rest of the way.

The Milwaukee Brewers got an RBI double by Vinny Rotino with 0 outs in the bottom of the 9th to lift the Brew Crew to a 8-7 win over the White Sox at Maryvale,Az. this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Paul Konerko was 3-3 at the plate with a homer.He was a triple away from the cycle.Rob Mackowiak was 2-4 with a 2-run triple.Jermaine Dye had a 2-run single.

THE BAD; Starter Clayton Richard, Chicago's eighth-round pick in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft, pitched a scoreless first inning but walked three batters in the second inning, and was tagged for four runs. Recently-signed reliever Vladimir Nunez surrendered three runs on four hits and three walks.

AJ Pierzynski scored on a wild pitch in the 7th inning to give the White Sox a 6-5 win over the host Kansas City Royals in Surprise,AZ this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Pierzynski was 3-4 with a run scored.Brian Anderson was 2-4 with a triple and RBI.Alex Cintron was 1-3 with 2 RBIs.

Hideo Nomo was somewhat decent in his 1st White Sox appearance as he game up 2 runs in 2 innings,striking out 2.

Boone Logan picked up the win pitching 1 2/3 innings of relief,retiring all 5 batters he faced.Cliff Politte,Neal Cotts,and Bobby Jenks each pitched a scoreless inning.

THE BAD; Brandon McCarthy was roughed up for 3 runs in 1/3 inning.He gave up a 3-run shot to Doug Mientkewicz in the 5th inning.

The visiting San Diego Padres used a 5-run 6th inning to break a 5-5 game and defeated the White Sox 10-7 in Tucson this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Paul Konerko,Jermaine Dye,and Brian Anderson each had 2 hits in the game.Konerko had 2 doubles and drove in 2.Anderson had a 2-run double in the 2nd inning,and Dye had 3 RBIs.

THE BAD; Jon Garland was roughed up pretty good,giving up 6 runs,5 earned on 13 hits over 5 2/3 innings.Newly acquired Matt Thornton gave up 4 runs,none earned on 4 hits over 1/3 inning in the 6th.Juan Uribe's ewrror in the 6th didn't help matters as that error extended SD's inning and Thornton gave up a 3-run bomb to Padres 3B Justin Leone.

Mark Buehrle was sharp this afternoon,but Bobby Jenks ran into trouble as the Colorado Rockies took a 5-3 decision from the White Sox in Tucson.

THE GOOD; Buehrle went 5 innings,giving up a run on 5 hits clocking in at 1 hour and 22 minutes.

Ross Gload was 3-4 with an RBI and a run scored.Rob Mackowiak was 2-3.Pablo Ozuna was 2-3 with a run scored,and Juan Uribe belted his 2nd homer of the spring.

THE BAD; Bobby Jenks gave up 4 runs,all earned on 4 hits in the 8th inning,erasing a 3-1 Sox lead at that point.

Scott Podsednik was in the lineup for the 1st time since March 6th and had a huge game as the Sox defeated the Texas Rangers 5-4 in surprise,Az this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Podsednik was 3-4 with a lead-off triple in the 1st inning.He scored twice and had an RBI.Minor League catcher Gustavo Molina was 2-for-3 with two walks and Paul Konerko was 2-for-4.

Hideo Nomo started and pitched two innings, giving up a home run to Mench and two other singles. Brandon McCarthy pitched two scoreless innings, giving up a single and two strikeouts.

THE BAD; Tadahito Iguchi continues to struggle from the 2 hole in the lineup.He was 1-5 with 2 RBIs in the game.His spring Batting average is .136

The White Sox barely got enough offense to stay in this game as they dropped a 4-3 decision to the host Seattle Mariners in Peoria,Az this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Juan Uribe's RBI single in a 2-run 9th inning tied the game at 3.Uribe was 2-4 on the afternoon.Scott Podsednik had an RBI single off Eddie Guardado in the 9th.

Freddy Garcia went 5 2/3 innings,giving up 2 runs on 6 hits while striking out 1.

THE BAD;The Sox went hitless from the 2nd inning until the 8th this afternoon.

Tadahito Iguchi was 0-3 from the 2 slot in the order dropping his spring average to .130

A White Sox pitching staff loaded with minor-leaguers was rocked by the San Francisco Giants 19-7 in Scottsdale this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Brian Anderson had 3 hits for the Sox including 2 doubles.Jermaine Dye homered.Ross Gload was 2-4 for the game.

The only bright spot among the pitchers was Boone logan.He was the only one who escaped untouced as he threw 2 innings walking 1 and striking out 1.Logan drops his ERA to 0.87 on the spring.

THE BAD; Tyler Lumsden started the game but lasted two-thirds of an inning. He gave up seven runs,three earned,on five hits and a walk.This after an impressive outing against the Royals last Monday.

Jim Thome helped lead the Sox in a 18-hit slugfest as they outlasted the visiting Kansas City Royals 9-7 in Tucson this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Thome was 3-4 with his first 2 home runs in Cactus League play.Jermaine Dye also homered.It was his team leading 5th blast of the spring.Joe Crede and Ross Gload each went 3-4.Gload added 2 RBIs this afternoon.

THE BAD; Hideo Nomo gave up 3 runs on 7 hits in 2 innings of work.Brandon McCarthy gave up 3 runs in the 8th inning before settling down in the 9th.

Jim Thome was hot again with 2 more home runs,but the bullpen failed to hold the lead in the 9th as the Sox and host Chicago Cubs played to a 4-4 tie in Mesa,Az this afternoon.

THE GOOD; Jim Thome continued to swing a hot bat going 4-5 with 2 long homers.Scott Podsednik went 2-2 in the game,while AJ Pierzynski went 2-4 on the afternoon.

Starter Mark Buehrle went 7 strong innings,giving up 2 runs on 4 hits.

THE BAD; Neal Cotts gave up 2 runs on 3 hits and walked a batter in a 9th inning save situation.

Scott Podsednik had to leave the game as a precaution after feeling a tweak in his groin.

Javier Vazquez went 6 innings,but the Sox could not support him offensively as they dropped a 3-1 contest to the host Arizona diamopndbacks at Tucson this afternoon.

THE GOOD; With two outs in the second inning, Juan Uribe singled to right and Joe Crede followed with a double to left-center to tie the game at 1. Ross Gload walked his first two times up.

Javier Vazquez threw 6 innings,giving up 3 runs on 7 hits.It was his 1st outing against his former Arizona teammates.

Boone Logan pitched a scorelees 7th inning.And the most encouraging sign was that Bobby Jenks pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning.

THE BAD; The Sox only collected 5 hits in the game,and had quite a few deep flies in the game knocked down by the wind which was blowing in.

Jim Thome continued his power surge and Pablo Ozuna blasted the 1st pitch in the bottom of the 10th for a walk-off homer as the White sox downed the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4 in Tucson this afternoon.

THE GOOD; For the 3rd time in the last 4 games,Jim Thome went yard twice.He was 2-3 with 3 RBIs on the spring,and raising his average to a blistering .422 in Cactus League play.Brian Anderson was 3-4 on the afternoon.Tadahito Iguchi was 2-4 with a run scored.

Potching wise,Boone Logan(2/3 inn.),Brandon McCarthy(1 IP),Matt Thornton(1 IP),and Chad Bentz(1 IP,winning pitcher) combined for 3 2/3 innings,each striking out a batter,and allowing no hits.

THE SO-SO; Starter Freddy Garcia gave up 11 hits in 6 1/3 innings of work.He gave up 4 runs,all earned while striking out 3.

In thier last tuneup in Arizona this season,the White sox and Colrado Rockies played to a 3-3 tie in a game that was played in 10 1/2 innings.The starters saw very limited action as the minor leaguers saw plenty of action.

THE GOOD; Starter Jose Contreras,making his 1st start since March 10(elbow pain),went 4 2/3 innings,allowing a run on 6 hits,walking 4 and striking out 5.Matt Thornton pitched 2 scorelees innings,allowing just 1 hit.

At the plate,Ross Gload temporarily put the Sox ahead with a 2-run blast in the 7th inning.For Gload,it was his 2nd homer of the spring.He has driven in 12.Juan Uribe went 2-3 with a double this afternoon.

THE BAD; Bobby Jenks allowed the tying run to score with 2 out in the 9th inning.

GOODBYE TUCSON; The Sox will travel to Atlanta for a 2-game set agains the Braves at Turner Field.Knuckleballer Charles Haegar will get the start Friday night at 6:05pm CT,with Cliff Politte,Boone Logan,Bobby Jenks,and Matt Thornton scheduled to work.

Jim Thome and Juan Uribe helped pace a 17-hit attack as the White Sox defeated the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field this evening.

On the hill,starter Charles haegar went 4 2/3 innings with his knuckler,giving up 3 runs,1 earned,on 5 hits,walking 2 and whiffing 5.Boone Logan struck out 2 of the 3 batters he faced.Bobby Jenks worked a perfect 8th inning for the win.

Jim Thome went deep for the 8th time in a week as the White Sox closed out thier exhibition schedule with a 10-5 win over the Atlnata Braves at Turner Field in Atlanta Saturday.

THE GOOD;Ross Gload and Alex Cintron both collected 3 hits apiece for the Sox.8 different sox players each had at least 1 RBI in the game.Pablo Ozuna had 2 RBIs.Thome belted his 8th homer of the spring in the 1st inning.The Sox had 17 hits altogether in the game.

Ozuna also stole 2 bases in the contest5.Rob Mackowiak and Alex Cintron also stole a base.

Starter Jon Garland allowed 3 runs on 9 hits in 5 innings work.

HEADING NORTH; The White Sox finish 2006 Cactus League play at 11-19-2.
