CHICAGO -- A 25-year-old mother from Westmont will spend 30 days in jail for attending the Jerry Springer Show.

Police say Shannon Cook left her three children, aged five and under, home alone while she was downtown for nine hours.

Police were alerted when the 5-year-old went to a neighbor’s house for help.

Cook pleaded guilty to misdemeanor child endangerment.

It's waaaay too often that I hear stories like this, such as a mother leaving her kids in the car in high summer while she was at work, or the father who stopped off at a bar one summer afternoon with his kids in the car.

There are strict requirements to drive a car, but any moron can become a parent.
