T.O. in the CO?
Source: Owens, Rosenhaus meet with Broncos

NEW YORK (AP) -- Terrell Owens and his agent visited Denver on Monday, talking with coach Mike Shanahan to see if he might be a fit with the Broncos.

Owens is under contract with Philadelphia, but the Eagles have given him permission to seek a trade.

Denver is a suitor, and a person familiar with the negotiations, who spoke on condition he not be identified because there was no deal, told The Associated Press the volatile receiver had a good meeting with Shanahan.

Owens and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, were shown by KCNC-TV at the Denver airport on their way out of town Monday night.

Broncos spokesman Jim Saccomano, working at the Super Bowl in Detroit, said he could not comment because he had no knowledge of the visit.

Last week, Shanahan declined commenting specifically on Owens because he is still under contract with the Eagles.

The coach does, however, have a history of taking chances on so-called risky players. Some, like Gerard Warren and Todd Sauerbrun, have worked out. Others, like Maurice Clarett and Dale Carter, haven't.

"Whoever that guy might be ... there's always a possibility if somebody handles himself the right way, they could come into this organization," Shanahan said. "But they're going to have to live by the standards we practice."

The day after the Broncos lost to Pittsburgh in the AFC championship game, several Broncos said they would welcome Owens in their locker room.

"If it would work anywhere, I think it would work here because of the guys in the locker room," center Tom Nalen said. "Guys would keep him straight. I think he'd conform. He'd fit in here."

The Broncos have receivers Rod Smith and Ashley Lelie. Smith, 35, had another strong year, finishing with 85 catches for 1,105 yards. Lelie had moments, but hasn't lived up to his potential as a first-round draft pick.

Many believe the Broncos need a game-breaker to take the next step.

"Everybody wants difference makers and everybody wants great players," Shanahan said. "Sometimes, you get a great player that's not a team player and then you have a great player on your team and he might not help you win games."

In November, the Eagles suspended Owens for the remainder of the season for his repeated criticism of the team, Donovan McNabb and several other issues.

Owens is due $7.5 million if the Eagles keep him on their roster after March 1. He has five seasons remaining the $49 million contract he signed in 2004.

The Eagles may not want to pay Owens the bonus money and some teams may want to see if they cut him, which would make him a free agent, eligible to be signed under new terms.

But for some compensation in a trade, a team could get the rights to Owens, then negotiate a new deal with him while he's still under his old contract.

saban was a college head coach up until this past season and handling college kids is different from handling someone like TO

Obviously you have no idea who Ricky Williams is and how Nick Saban gave him a second chance in which helped lead to a successful season for the Miami Dolphins. He changed the mind of players like Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor on Williams being a quitter, convincing them to give him a chance to reestablish himself and that's what he did. Saban doesn't take shit from anyone and will make that clear to Owens.

Ricky Williams is an irresponsible hippy

TO is a self-destructing moron that breeds hate

There's a difference.

It's a similar situation. The team said he'd be a virus to the locker room and chemistry, as McMichael has already expressed about Owens, as did Booker. Saban wants players that want to win. Owens wants nothing more then that besides some cash.

 Nick Saban would never take T.O. The only reason he took back Ricky is to build his value so he can trade his ass.

Which one? Saban and T.O.? No way. Saban is far too intelligent.:)

Shanahan has taken risks before with Clarett, Daryl Gardner, and Todd Sauerbrun. The Broncos would probably be the best place for T.O. with the running game established, an aging (yet productive) Rod Smith as the other WR.

Ashley Lelie has not been as good as they hoped he would be. Adding T.O. with the improving defense could give the Broncos that extra edge to make it to the Super Bowl next year.

(Well, most every team needs something like that).

They had a big talk about it on PTI a week or two ago and it seemed very possiblle.

Improving the Broncos defense? Their defense is insane. And I don't know about you, but I'd take Chambers along side T.O. over Rod Smith any day.

Saban? Or the PTI dudes? Even though the Fish are a division rival, I'd hate to see that. Why destroy the goodwill Saban is building? I really like Saban a lot. I'm thrilled to see him turning the Fish around.

The Cowboys is where I'd like to see him land. Might as well have the game's biggest turd play for my 32nd-favorite NFL team :D

I have to agree with PP about bring Owens into Miami. That would be a bad move for Miami at this point. They have the very good WR on the rise in Chris Chambers. What good would bring Owens and all his you know what to the team? Let Chambers remain the number 1 WR on this team. Bring T.O. in would be a bad move.

The Cowboys and Broncos though, would be possible. Depending on the coaches, both teams could use a number one WR at this point. Glenn, Witten and Johnson are the options in Dallas. We know how old Glenn and Johnson are getting. Broncos have the old wonder Rod Smith. Of course, the biggest problem is T.O., of course. T.O. and Jake Plummer? You're asking for trouble. Parcells and T.O.? Somebody cover it already.

Or even worst: parcells and keyshaun johnson! :flush:

EDIT: That's never gonna happen they'd kill each other.

There has been a lot of talk about a 3-way-deal with the Broncos, Dolphins, and Eagles.

Chris Chambers is not on the rise all of a sudden. He's been a great WR for several years now, but is finally starting to get the recognition he deserves and will only get better with a supporting cast (ex. T.O., new QB; Cutler?). This would be a brilliant move and would make the Dolphins and offensive powerhouse compared to their defense oriented teams the last decade. A move like this would make the Dolphins an immediate contender for the AFC East. The Dolphins are known to take risks on guys like this especially with Saban, IMO, because he is such a great coach. That's why they made the trade for Ricky, who was extremely inconsistent with the Saints.
