PHOENIX -- D'Angelo Jimenez singled home the go-ahead run and Phil Nevin doubled in two more during the ninth inning Wednesday night as the San Diego Padres beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-7.
The World Series champion Diamondbacks, behind Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling, had shut out the Padres in the first two games of the three-game series.
The Padres ended their scoreless streak in the first inning when Jimenez led off with a double and Ron Gant had a sacrifice fly.
After San Diego took an 8-5 lead in the top of the ninth, Arizona rallied in the bottom half against Trevor Hoffman. Danny Bautista had a sacrifice fly and Mark Grace hit an RBI single.
The Diamondbacks went on to load the bases with two outs before Hoffman retired Steve Finley on a foul pop for a save.
Grace and Finley each homered for the second time in the series as the Diamondbacks rallied from a 5-1 deficit.
Grace's leadoff homer off Jeremy Fikac (1-0) in the eighth tied it 5.
Left-hander Mike Myers (0-1) came on with the bases loaded and one out in the San Diego eighth and got out of the inning with a strikeout and ground out.
Deivi Cruz led off the Padres' ninth with a single and moved to second on Ramon Vazquez's sacrifice bunt.
Jimenez singled and Cruz barely beat Finley's throw from center field to give San Diego a 6-5 lead. Bret Prinz replaced Myers and gave up a two-run, two-out double to Nevin.
After driving in San Diego's first run of the season, Gant hit a two-run homer and threw out a runner at the plate.
Bubba Trammell also homered for the Padres, who scored five runs on seven hits in four innings against Diamondbacks starter Brian Anderson.
San Diego catcher Wiki Gonzalez fractured a bone in his left wrist fouling off a pitch in the fourth inning. He flied out on the next pitch, left the game and is expected to be sidelined 6-to-8 weeks. He will go to San Diego on Thursday for further examination.
Gant's homer in the third, following Mark Kotsay's double, made it 3-1. Trammell led off the fourth with a 408-foot homer.
Padres starter Brian Lawrence allowed four runs on eight hits in 5 2-3 innings. He also doubled in a run with two outs in the fourth.
Luis Gonzalez just missed his first home run of the season with a triple off the center-field wall to lead off the sixth. He scored on Grace's groundout, and Finley followed with a homer to pull Arizona within 5-4.
Pinch-hitter Quinton McCracken led off the Diamondbacks' seventh with a single, then advanced to second on Tony Womack's bunt. Bautista singled to left, and McCracken tried to score from second and was thrown out by Gant.
Notes:@ Luis Gonzalez was amused that a piece of gum he had chewed was being sold on eBay, with the bid up to $50. "People are crazy, or at least a little weird," he said. The gum was gone from eBay by Wednesday night. ... Johnson was presented his third consecutive NL Cy Young Award before the game. ... The Padres acquired left-handed reliever Juan Moreno from Texas for minor league shortstop Jason Moore. To make room for Moreno, San Diego placed lefty Jose Nunez on the 15-day DL with a strained left shoulder.
