ST. LOUIS (TICKER) -- John Thomson scattered seven hits over seven innings and Juan Uribe and Benny Agbayani belted solo homers, leading the Colorado Rockies to a 6-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals.
Thomson (1-0) held St. Louis in check after giving up a run in the bottom of the first. He walked none and struck out three.
The Rockies took the rubber game of the three-game series, winning the final two after losing on Opening Day.
Andy Benes (0-1) suffered the loss in his first start since August 14, yielding five runs -- four earned -- and four hits over four-plus innings.
Fernando Vina led off the bottom of the first with a single, stole second and eventually scored on J.D. Drew's sacrifice fly to give the Cardinals a 1-0 lead.
But the Rockies took the lead on the homers by Uribe and Agbayani in the third and fourth innings, respectively, then chased Benes with three in the fifth.
Benes got himself in trouble with a lead-off walk to Thomson, who later scored on Benes' throwing error. Juan Pierre singled to left and Uribe reached on an infield single. Benes tried to make the play, but threw wildly to first, leaving runners on second and third.
Mike Matthews replaced Benes and uncorked a wild pitch, plating Pierre. Uribe came home on Todd Helton's grounder to short.
