Left-hander Dana Eveland, who entered camp as a candidate for a job in the rotation or the bullpen, was sent to Class AAA Nashville along with outfielder Tony Gwynn Jr. and right-hander Chris Demaria.

Eveland, 22, reported to camp heavier than the Brewers wanted him to and then turned in four shaky exhibition outings. In eight innings, he allowed 19 hits and 14 earned runs (15.75 earned run average). He walked six batters, struck out one and saw opponents bat .500 against him.

Yost said Eveland would work as a starter in the minors and would benefit from "a more comfortable atmosphere."

The Brewers also sent infielder Hernan Iribarren to Class A Brevard County and assigned left-hander Wilfredo Rodriguez to minor-league camp.

Phoenix - The Milwaukee Brewers made three players moves after their 10-9 loss to Oakland this afternoon, optioning outfielder Tony Gwynn, Jr., and pitcher Chris Demaria to Class AAA Nashville and infielder Hernan Iribarren to Class A Brevard County.

Earlier in the day, the Brewers optioned lefty Dana Eveland to Nashville and assigned lefty Wilfredo Rodriguez to minor-league camp.

"With minor-league games starting, it doesn't make sense to have these kids sitting around up here,'' manager Ned Yost said. "It's better to have them go play.''

The moves left the Brewers with 41 players in major-league camp.

Demaria, 25, spent the majority of the 2005 season at Class A High Desert where he went 4-2 with a 2.23 ERA. He made his Major League debut last season with Kansas City and went 1-0 with an ERA of 8.00 in eight relief appearances. This spring, Demaria made three Cactus League appearances and went 0-0 with a 1.93 ERA.

Gwynn, 23, spent the entire 2005 season at Double A Huntsville where he hit .271 and was selected as a Southern League Mid-Season All Star. He hit .200 with two home runs, five RBI and one triple in Cactus League play this year.

Iribarren, 21, spent the entire 2005 season with Class A West Virginia where he hit .290 with four home runs and 48 RBI. He was named to the South Atlantic League Mid Season All Star team and participated in the Futures Game in Detroit. In Cactus League play, Iribarren hit .250 with three RBI in ten games.
