Yost said the final week of camp would be used in large part to settle positions in the bullpen in front of closer Derrick Turnbow and setup men Matt Wise and Dan Kolb. Yost suggested Thursday that Jorge De La Rosa would be in the pen, perhaps as the only lefty.
Right-hander Kane Davis, who is out of minor-league options, has not pitched since last Saturday because of shoulder tendinitis and probably is out of the running. Right-hander Mike Adams, plagued by shoulder and back soreness earlier in camp, has appeared in only two games and is a long shot to make the roster.
Right-handers Justin Lehr and Jose Capellan appear to have good shots of making the bullpen, as does knuckleballer Jared Fernandez, in long relief. Veteran lefty Justin Tompson also is still in camp and has performed well (2.57 earned run average).
"Those guys are all in the mix," said Yost, who is leaning toward keeping 12 pitchers. "It's always nice to have multiple-inning guys there.
"We need to fill out the front end of the bullpen. There are a lot of factors involved."
