Local anchors and sports directors say a decision this week by NFL owners to ban sideline television cameras will make it more difficult for TV photographers and reporters to do their jobs. The ban applies to all TV cameras except those belonging to NFL Films or to the network broadcasting each game. It affects not only local stations but network rights-holders, including NFL Network and ESPN, not doing the live game broadcast. As described Thursday by NFL spokesman Seth Palansky, the rules sound crystal clear and decidedly draconian: No outside cameras, period, from opening kickoff to final gun. "We don't think it should harm (local stations) at all," Palansky said. "They will still have access to NFL Films and the network feeds. There are plenty of places to get footage. "(The stations) have to understand that the intellectual property rights belong to the rights-holders during a live broadcast and to the NFL subsequently.

I think the NFL is going to shoot itself in it foot here real soon. I once in a while will hear talk of pay-per view on games and such. I think the NFL will start to kill the local fans quickly with this move.
