Moises Alou, the Chicago Cubs' major offseason acquisition, was placed on the 15-day disabled list Friday before the team's home opener because of a strained right calf.
It is the third straight season the oft-injured Alou has gone to the DL with an injury to his right calf. The Cubs signed him to a $27 million, three-year contract in the offseason to replace another player who had problems with injuries, Rondell White.
