I was stating for my school baseball team so I missed the game, but I was pleasantly suprised to come home to this lovely stat in today's box score:

Lol. Cano can't get a BB a week, but Giambi can get 3 in a game.

Cano has a good eye he could draw walks more often. But he doesn't because he's not patient enough.

If Robi could walk he'd be an unstoppable force of world destruction.
Oh well.

Your telling me, 10 HR's in July all I can say is WOW...........just WOW. Even though I'm really not that surprised by the Yanks surge. Anyone who counted out the Yanks, just does not understand baseball history :D

Apparently during BP, the coaches have been mixing in wild pitches when pitching to Cano to help him better his pitch selection.
I'm glad they're doing things to address that one glaring weakness in his game.

Cano IS going to be the best 2nd baseman in time..................yes even better than Utley (IMO). Even as a Sox fan I'm super happy that he is finally starting to show his potential

LOL except Ichiro is 2 seconds faster than him and most of his hits come from infield hits, for any normal player they are outs :D

true and the ability to hit any pitch where ever he wants on the field. he was joking earlier this year that he could lead the league in home runs but it would drop his average to about .250 and i totally believe him.

Thats no joke I watched Ichiro during BP a few years a ago and the guy was putting them over the wall without a problem. Now I know it was BP, but the man can hit for power or for OBP, either way you look at it Ichiro is nasty and a WELCOME addition to any team.....................damn them Mariners :)
I truly believe within the next few years Cano is going to be the best all around 2nd baseman in the game. He just needs to work on laying off the bad pitch, which has been addressed and I cant wait to watch him mature in his career.
The only other thing he lacks really is range and reading the hitter. Range MAY come with maturity, but that is a 50/50 thing some have it some dont. Reading the hitter WILL come with some good coaching and maturity

Yah him and Kendrick will battle it out if Kendrick ends up playing 2nd. And i give Cano the advantage having Jeter to teach him all he knows.

I give cano the advantage because..........well I just think he better :D I really cant base a true opinion off on Kendrick because I have not seen him play much and I really dont like to base opinions off of just stats alone, stats tell most of the story, but not all of it

Kendrick looks to be a stud. By the way a sleeper in all this is young Jose Lopez. Only 23 years old probably the best defensively of these three and has shown some pop from his bat. I think the other two have more potential but Lopez was an all-star before any of them (last year).

I think his defensive range is great...Robi's slowly maturing into one of the best devensive second basemen in baseball. The Yanks should start hyping him for Gold Glove awards soon (not that that award is anything significant).

I doubt if Ichiro's time is faster then Mantle's and I know he isn't 2 seconds faster then Cano. It is only a 30 yard sprint.

here is the average time to 1st
TSN NUMBER: 4.2, 6.7 seconds. The first number is the average time, home plate to first base, for a lefthanded batter (it's 4.3 for a righthander hitter). The second number is considered a good time in the 60-yard dash, the baseball scout's preferred distance to clock (as opposed to football's 40).
So I would guess about .7 seconds max for Ichiro's time to 1st over Cano's.

I know he is not 2 seconds faster, I was just throwing a number out there more as sarcasm than anything, it was nothing researched. I understand all the averages, how they work and what they mean and what not, but like i said I just threw 2 seconds out there. If I had researched it I would have put something a tad bit more realistic.
I will try and find the article I read last year where it listed Ichiro's time to first was the same as Mantles 3.1. Damn let me see if I can find it, now...........I will post it when I do
NOTE: I was wrong Ichiro;s best time was 3.7 seconds, sorry I miss read it :)

Sorry about that. When I read the "any normal player" part I thought you might be one of the fans that dress Ichiro in a blue suit and red cape.
IMO, Ichiro gets more infield hits then other speedy hitters because of his running stroke then his speed alone. Willie Taveras of the Rockies I believe has as much speed going to 1st as Ichiro, he bats righty and leads the NL with 29 bunt singles, he even beats ot some bunts out in a sacrifice situation.

I agree Taveras is really fast. The other speedster that I can giving infielders a bit of a scare is Jacoby Elsbury. He is one I cant wait to see more of.

The only reason why I question his range is because it seems like to many balls go right under his glove on the middle second base side..............but that could also be he is still learning to shade hitters to each side. He is really good going to his left, but the right seems a bit weak, either way give it time and he will be the best second baseman in the game.
