Who was the last player to strike out as many as 40 times in a season as a hitter one year and turn around and strike out as many as 40 hitters the very next season as a pitcher?

The Unit did it, but I'm looking for a player who did it as a position player one year and as a pitcher the following year. I don't know if this is much of a clue, but the player in question struck out 46 times one season (Like Randy) and then struck out 46 hitters the next season.

No, that would not be much of a clue. :D

CLUE:

He is the only pitcher since 1900 to win at least 10 games in a season while walking less than 10 batters. (sort of a trivia question within a trivia question)

(sort of a trivia question within a trivia question)Thinking there must be more than one who did this. Deacon Phillippe won 14 in 1910 for the Pirates and only walked 9 (121.2 IP). His hitting records (especially regarding Ks, are incomplete).

I'll keep diggin' on the 40-40 question.

It doesn't count only because I asked for the last player to do it:D

Aha! So what you're trying to tell me is that I need to read the question a little better next time, huh? :wedgie:

I take it this guy was also the last to have the 10+ wins, less than 10 BB in a season, too.

I think he said he was the only guy to have the 10+ wins, less than 10 BB in a season;)

I'm stumped.. I either need another hint or I need you to answer this Willie because this question is giving me a headache:D

Either that or I'm counting my answer of Randy Johnson since position player was not initially stated in the original post;)

hehe:D

I thought it was Baseball Guru, not Baseball BooHoo:D

When I can stump you guys I know I've come up with a good one.

The player in question accomplished the feat as a Pirate. He was deferred from military duty in Korea in the early 1950s because at 6'6 1/2 inches tall, he was a half-inch over service regulations.

Richard Wallace 'Dick' Hall - Struck out 46 times in 1954 for the Pirates in 1954 playing outfield for the Bucs, then struck out 46 batters as a pitcher for the Pirates in 1955.

His 10-win, less-than-10 BB season came with the O's in 1970 (10 wins, 61.1 IP, 6 BB).

Honestly do not remember this guy at all :notme:

Nice Willie:thumbsup: . I'm surprised you don't recall him. I remember him from the late 60's/early 70's Oriole teams that went to the WS. Excellent reliever.

Yeah, and I should remember him from those Bawlmer teams, too. Perhaps I charred the brain cell that held that info in the 70s sometime :PPsmilie:
