ARLINGTON, Texas -- Anaheim first baseman Benji Gil and reliever Troy Percival were both put on the 15-day disabled list Friday after the Angels' 3-1 win against Texas.
Gil sprained his left ankle after fielding a grounder in the first inning of the game. Rangers leadoff hitter Rusty Greer, who slid trying to avoid the tag, slammed his foot hard into Gil's ankle.
Percival was diagnosed with a strained rib muscle Wednesday, a day after he got his first save of the season. He had been taking anti-inflammatory medication but hadn't had much relief.
The Angels recalled right-hander Brendan Donnelly and infielder Clay Bellinger from Triple-A Salt Lake of the Pacific Coast League.
Donnelly, who has been playing in the minors since 1992, has never pitched in the majors. Bellinger, who played parts of the last three seasons with the New York Yankees, signed with the Angels as a free agent during the winter.
Gil tried to stay in the game Friday, but had to come out two batters later. He had X-rays.
"The X-rays were negative, but it was swelling up like a balloon," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. "It's going to take some time, but I don't know the timeframe."
