There's been a lot of speculation on who the Cubs might get to fill in at 1B while Derrek Lee is out. Personally I like Todd Walker at 1B but he (and a lot of the team) has struggled against lefties so far. Here are the names that I have heard; Oriole's Jeff Conine and Kevin Millar, Diamondbacks's Tony Clark, Yankee's Minor Leaguer Carlos Pena. I've read that Conine or Millar are the best picks since they can also play outfield. Any thoughts on these guys or any other options?

we pretty much have to stick with what we've got as the other options arent any good. Conine is worthless, Millar isnt far behind. Clark cant do anything BUT play 1st and youre going to trade something of worth for 6 weeks of a bat? no way. and Pena certainly isnt the answer either.

we pretty much have to live with things as the way they are.

I agree with you on everything you have said. I just hope the Cubs do too and don't go trading away something of value for any of those guys. Personally I would like to see Conine or Millar play for us. But not for what Baltimore will be asking I'm sure.

They're fine with Mabry or Restovich. Walker can play a little too, I'd just like to see Mabry get more ABs. Conine is old, and Millar is possibly the slowest man in the game. They're fine for now. Just turn that pitching around and we'll be fine. As long as we don't have any more freak injuries.(IE- Lee and the line drive off Prior's elbow last year) The real ones are bad enough.

If the Cubs stay a little over .500 for the next few weeks, then we get Wood+Prior to help out, and Lee will be on his way. Everything will be looking up. Hopefully.

BTW- Mad Dog goes for #6 tonight, also #324.
