TC, does Howser always play like he did? He took quite a few shots at Maine players last night.

Last night was a bit extreme but his pattern during this season has been to really protect the crease. If anyone tries to run him or intimidate him, he gives them a shot. He took 4 penalties for 8 minutes during the season.

A lot of teams in the WCHA like to give the goalie a "bump" or spray some ice shavings on them, after the play, just to try and intimidate them. The refs hardly ever call a running into the goalie penalty, so they have to protect themselves or wait for their defensemen to help out.

Hauser has taken a lot of criticism during his career. The Wisconson coach was quoted during the season as saying that Hauser was the main reason that the Gophers wouldn't win come the playoffs. He started carrying a real chip on his shoulder, trying to prove everyone wrong.
