YES!!! ANOTHER FOOTBALL THREAD!!! Awesome. I'm really looking forward to the Jacksonville game. Being in North Florida we have a lot of Dolphin fans that mix with the Jag fans, so it's a good time. I'm interested to know how Daunte will do in S.Florida and if Vick will make the team at all (I doubt it).

Yeah I don't think Vick will be on the roster. I hope Daunte is better for the big Pittsburgh game.
I live in NY...I don't really know how I became a Dolphins fan (my brother is one too). I root for the Giants almost as much as the Dolphins too, but overall I'm a Phins fan. I've been to a couple of games in Miami and a couple in the Meadowlands vs. the Jets. I wish I could see more with the limited TV coverage here in NY.

Yeah...Dolphins and Patriots should be on the top. I don't anticipate a fight from the Bills or Jets at this point. There's no excuse for either Miami or NE to go anything less than 4-2 in division.

This year, we hear the Dolphins are intrigued by Virginia linebacker Ahmad Brooks, who is expected to be available in the July 13 NFL supplemental draft. Two other linebackers also could warrant a look: Iowa State's Jason Berryman and Hutchinson (Kan.) Junior College's David Dixon. Brooks and Berryman have had off-field issues, but that hasn't stopped Nick Saban before. Kicked off Virginia's team in January for an undisclosed reason, Brooks can play inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense, which Miami will use at times. NFL.com's Gil Brandt said he could be a Julius Peppers-type defensive end.

For the first time since Daunte Culpepper's arrival this spring, the Dolphins will let the public watch the team work out. The Dolphins will start a three-day veterans' mini-camp Friday. The team will practice twice Friday and Saturday and once Sunday. Culpepper, who was acquired from the Minnesota Vikings in March, is rehabilitating his knee after tearing three tendons last season. Other new Dolphins, including quarterback Joey Harrington, fullback Fred Beasley and offensive tackle L.J. Shelton, will participate, too.

DT Dan Wilkinson visited the Dolphins on Thursday, and the team could sign him to replace or compete with nose tackle Keith Traylor. Wilkinson, who owns a contracting business in Washington, had talked about retiring after being released by Detroit last month. However, Wilkinson also is considering playing for a contender this season, such as the Dolphins or Cincinnati.

The starter wheeled off Saturday, wide receiver Marty Booker, has a sprained left ankle according to Dolphins coach Nick Saban. Saban initially said Booker had an ankle sprain, but that was before X-rays were taken. ''He has no significant problems,'' Saban said. ``He does have a pretty good sprained ankle, but I think he's going to be fine. He may be out for a few days.''

Sunday was free of red jerseys, which mark the player as available for limited practice duty because of injury. Nick Saban claimed those who would had been given red jerseys declined them because they didn't want to face his usual joking jabs reserved for the men in red. Once he put on a microphone for the first 30 minutes of practice for an ESPN feature, he decided to shelve the jibes. ''I took it off as soon as I could,'' Saban said. ``One minute short of the last period I had to wear it. It was like torture.''

Same here. I loved Marino. I can't wait till the season starts...I really think this is a great team. Culpepper just adds to our 9-7 team last year, basically with no QB. I do wish we had Ricky though. He could be a big help for Ronnie to carry the load. I'm looking for a big year from Chambers and McMichael. Chambers came on at the end of last year. McMichael didn't do that great. Can't wait!!

REGINA, Saskatchewan -- Running back Ricky Williams broke his left arm in the second quarter of the Toronto Argonauts' 26-23 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday night and is out indefinitely.
Argonauts coach Mike "Pinball" Clemons confirmed the injury but did not specify which bone was broken.
"He has a broken arm, so he's going to be out for a little while," Clemons said.
Williams, who was not available for interviews, left the game midway through the second quarter after a 3-yard gain when he was tackled by several Saskatchewan players, including linebacker Mike McCullough. X-rays taken at a Regina hospital revealed a broken bone.
"He was actually holding himself off the ground," Clemons said of Williams. "He was running with the ball and he was trying to hold himself up, I think. It was a pile of people and we saw him coming down.
"We knew he was hurt when he came off the field. It looked like it was his shoulder [from] the way he was leaning, but it turned out be his arm.
"You're talking about some fortitude. It's a clean break. He just came off quiet, didn't say a thing. Like, I'd have been screaming."
Williams finished with 17 yards on four carries, including one run of 16 yards. He entered Saturday's game sixth in the league in rushing with 214 yards on 53 carries with one touchdown in four games.
Williams is playing in the CFL after he was suspended by the NFL for one year after violating the league's substance abuse policy for a fourth time. He is still under contract with the NFL's Miami Dolphins.
Any games Williams misses will be the first he sits out due to injury since a broken left ankle forced him to miss the last six games of the 2000 NFL season, when he was with the New Orleans Saints.

Three Burning Questions
Can a healthy Daunte Culpepper lead this offense?
When the Dolphins acquired the rights to Culpepper from the Vikings, they closed the cushion within the AFC East on the Patriots. Coming off a season-ending injury and his poor performance in 2005, Culpepper has a lot to prove this year. Culpepper displays very good athletic skills for the position with the kind of size and arm strength that sets him apart from most quarterbacks in the NFL. His ability to slide and move in the pocket will make the offensive line much improved, along with his strong supporting cast in RB Ronnie Brown, WR Chris Chambers and TE Randy McMichael.
Can the new secondary produce?
In 2005 the Dolphins' secondary ranked 20th in the NFL, allowing 206.7 yards per game. In the offseason, the Dolphins wasted little time in upgrading their secondary. They terminated the contracts of Sam Madison, Tebucky Jones and Reggie Howard, and did not re-sign free agent Lance Schulters. They added free agents Will Allen, Andre' Goodman, Renaldo Hill and Deke Cooper, and drafted Jason Allen in the first round. Will Allen will replace Madison at right corner, while Hill moves inside at strong safety; the versatile Jason Allen will play free safety. Second-year player Travis Daniels, who replaced Howard last season, will start at left corner.
Can the Dolphins overtake the Patriots in the AFC East?
There is no doubt the Dolphins closed the gap on the Patriots in the offseason. Head coach Nick Saban is a disciple of Bill Belichick and has slowly installed many basic fundamentals that has made New England a superior organization in the NFL. Both coaching staffs are excellent in game planning and teaching the proper fundamentals that relates to their system. But the one key element that will make it hard for the Dolphins to overtake the Patriots in the division is New England QB Tom Brady. Brady creates so many problems when keeping defenses off balance. His ability to manage the game while making the proper decisions is second to none. The bottom line: Brady knows how to win close games. However, the pieces are in place for both franchises to get through the regular season and continue their play into the postseason in 2006.
The player under the microscope
Culpepper. For the Dolphins to get back to respectability in the AFC, it starts with their experienced quarterback. Culpepper will be under immense pressure to produce from day one. Based on his performance last season, Saban will need to establish the confidence that his signal caller will need if he struggles early in the season. However, look for Culpepper to put up big numbers in 2006 and excel in a Dolphins offense that will be very similar to the one he ran in Minnesota.
Breakout player
Free safety Jason Allen. Allen, the first-round pick out of Tennessee, upgrades a position of need for the Dolphins. He is a versatile player who can play either safety or corner in regular and sub defenses. He has size, instincts and playmaking skills that the Dolphins lacked much of the 2005 season. He is a playmaker against both the run and pass. He is a physical insert player who rarely missed tackles in open space in college. He should get a lot of opportunities to make a positive impact in the Dolphins' secondary.
Comeback player of the year
FB Fred Beasley. The Beasley signing this offseason was a solid addition by the Dolphins based on his versatility. The former Pro Bowl player is one of the better blocking fullbacks in the league. He is a tough, physical blocker who never really fit in with the new coaching staff in San Francisco. He does have some declining skills based on age, but he has been impressive in the offseason program and should bring a unique dimension to the Dolphins' offense based on his experience and receiving skills. If he could somehow get back to his Pro Bowl ways, the Dolphins have added another solid weapon on offense opposite Brown.
Offensive philosophy
Former Bills head coach Mike Mularkey takes over the offense in 2006. Mularkey will tinker with the terminology somewhat, but the system installed by Scott Linehan will stay in place. Keep in mind that this should benefit Culpepper in a big way from not having to learn a whole new system. It's a player-friendly system that features a strong, powerful running game as the foundation that sets up the passing game. The Dolphins will rely on a strong running game that features stretch zones and misdirection that enables Brown to utilize his physical running style. However, with the addition of a healthy Culpepper, look for the Dolphins to open up the passing game even more vertically down the field to keep defenses off balance. Also, look for Mularkey to incorporate more play action, semi-rollouts and bootlegs, which play to Culpepper's strengths and put even more pressure on the defense.
Defensive philosophy
Saban made the transition a year ago from smaller, speedier players to bigger, more versatile ones who fit his multiple-look defensive schemes. Dom Capers (special assistant to the head coach) was hired this offseason to improve and work within the framework of a defense that finished 18th in total defense in 2005. Capers is known for his attention to detail and his mastery of the concepts of the zone blitz. Even though the Dolphins finished second in the NFL in sacks with 49, Capers will incorporate more ways to generate pressure with his zone blitz style, while playing a lot of matchup zones on the back end in coverage. The Dolphins will continue to change schemes from week to week, depending on the matchup. Most of the problems on defense occurred in the secondary last year, so the Dolphins will unleash a totally different secondary in 2006 that features Jason Allen at FS. However, the front seven remains completely intact with experienced, veteran players led by MLB Zach Thomas and RDE Jason Taylor.

Culpepper to begin Dolphins camp on field
DAVIE, Fla. (July 26, 2006) -- Daunte Culpepper will take part in the Miami Dolphins' first training camp workout July 29 even though he has yet to fully recover from knee surgery last November.
Coach Saban didn't rule out Culpepper playing in the first preseason game Aug. 12 against Jacksonville.
"I can't make any predictions," Saban said. "We're making these evaluations on a day-to-day basis as to what his workload is and what he is capable of doing. When the games come, we'll make those same kind of determinations."
The Dolphins will open their second camp under Saban with much of the attention on Culpepper, acquired in March in a trade with the Minnesota Vikings. He gives the Dolphins their most talented quarterback since Dan Marino retired six years ago, but his health is an issue.
Culpepper tore three ligaments in his right knee Oct. 30 and missed the rest of the season. He has been ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation and took part in the Dolphins' offseason practices.
"I'm not saying he was 100 percent, but he was able to participate at a level where he was able to do things effectively at his position," Saban said.
Miami's quarterbacks are off limits to contact during practice, allowing Culpepper to participate more fully. He'll share snaps in practice with another newcomer, former Detroit starter Joey Harrington.
The Dolphins' season opener is six weeks away -- Sept. 7 against the Super Bowl champion Steelers in Pittsburgh.
The only player ruled out for the start of camp is defensive tackle Rodrique Wright, a seventh-round draft pick from Texas who is recovering from shoulder surgery.
Wright and several other draft picks remain unsigned, among them first-round choice Jason Allen, a defensive back from Tennessee. Players are scheduled to report July 28.

DAVIE, Fla. -- Huge air-conditioning vents in the Miami Dolphins' new indoor practice building blew with gale force, which meant Daunte Culpepper was throwing against the wind when he heaved the longest pass of practice.
It traveled 50 yards, catching receiver Chris Chambers in stride along the sideline and near the vents with midseason accuracy.
Clearly Culpepper's arm is fine. And his knee is improving all the time.
The Dolphins' new quarterback took the field for the start of training camp Saturday, nine months after a right knee injury ended his 2005 season.
"So far, everything is a thumbs-up," Culpepper said. "I had visions when I got hurt to be here today to start training camp, and I still have visions to be ready for the first game."
The opener against Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh is Sept. 7, less than six weeks away. Given the speedy pace of Culpepper's recovery, he may be ready.
"We're encouraged by the progress he has made," coach Nick Saban said. "It has all been a pleasant surprise for us."
Culpepper wasn't the only new addition to make a favorable first impression. Because of a downpour shortly after the Dolphins took the field, they tried out their new $9 million indoor practice building sooner than planned.
Saban wants to work outside as much as possible to acclimate his players to the South Florida heat, but he was glad to find refuge from the heavy rain.
"With this facility, you just take the weather out of the mix, and you can always stay on the schedule you want to stay on," he said.
Camp began with only one player unsigned -- first-round draft pick Jason Allen, projected to start at safety. He seeks a five-year contract, while the team wants to lock him up for six years.
In 2005, top pick Ronnie Brown missed the first three weeks of camp in a holdout. Last March, owner Wayne Huizenga said he would insist that none of his team's draft picks miss the beginning of camp.
"There's a business part of this game we're not going to air out publicly," Saban said. "We're going to focus on the players that are here."
Saban's mood was otherwise upbeat. He said players reported in much better shape than for his first camp with Miami a year ago, and he praised the efficiency of the opening workout -- a considerable undertaking with more than 100 players and coaches scattered across the field in various drills.
At the center of it all was Culpepper, who tore three ligaments in his knee last season with Minnesota and was traded in March. There were projections that his recovery could take a year or more, but there he was running plays with the first team, sporting a knee brace the training staff talked him into wearing.
Culpepper said he felt no pain or limitations in his movement, and he plans to take part in every workout, even on days when the team practices twice.
"Daunte is excited," Brown said. "It's kind of like a kid in a candy store, him having an opportunity to be on the field again. When you have a guy like that leading your team, it rubs off on everybody else."
Tests grade the strength of Culpepper's right knee at only 85 to 90 percent of his left knee, he said, and he knows better than to push his comeback too quickly. When he broke free on a scramble, he moved through the secondary at a trot rather than a sprint, and while he wore a helmet and shoulder pads, he and the other quarterbacks were off limits to contact.
But Saban said he saw improvement in Culpepper's movement and quickness since the final offseason practice seven weeks ago. And Culpepper drew satisfaction simply from stepping onto the field for the start of camp.
"Every day I heard people say, "He's not going to be ready,"' Culpepper said. "I was ready to show that the hard work I've put forth is paying off."

Culpepper should be better this year. Just because of the coaching. When Culpepper had solid coaching is when he had his great years. And Saban is a guy that aint going to take crap from him. The Vikings old owner was just a butt hole and wouldnt let the Vikings hire coachs and good coach's when he did and it showed in the play. Culpepper needs that guiding force that will tell him what to do and that is when he has great seasons.

Manny Wright might get his wish of leaving the Dolphins after all. The Dolphins have recently contacted several teams, offering Wright in trade, in what is an apparent attempt to divest from the AWOL player while also fulfilling his wish to be traded or released. Miami officials began making calls to other teams Monday, with the Tennessee Titans among the teams they contacted. The Titans are struggling along the defensive line, with nearly half of their 14 linemen missing practice this week. In what is bad news for the Dolphins, however, interest in Wright has been lukewarm at best. The Titans, unfazed by their need, told Miami they were not interested in Wright.

When Daunte Culpepper plays against Carolina, it will mark his return to Bank of America Stadium, where he tore three ligaments in his right knee Oct. 30. He sustained the injury on the final play of the first quarter after running for 18 yards. Dolphins coach Nick Saban isn't worried about how playing in Carolina could affect Culpepper. ''I do think him getting banged around a little bit last week probably is beneficial to him,'' Saban said. ``Certainly if that's something that is psychologically affecting him that would be something we need to manage."

Dolphins coach Nick Saban said the Dolphins weren't going to change their schedule unless it was ''absolutely necessary'' and any changes would be made at 7 a.m. today. ''I think it's important for our fans to know that it looks to me like the game's going to be played when it's scheduled to be played,'' Saban said. ``That's what we're looking forward to. Anything else, to speculate on that, I'm not the weatherman.''

Coming off a 9-7 mark in coach Nick Saban's debut season, which included a six-game winning streak to end the year, the Dolphins seem poised for double-digit victories in '06. Certainly this is a better outfit than last year's team, if for no other reason than the acquisition of quarterback Daunte Culpepper, a playmaker who can make things happen with his arms or legs. With Culpepper on board, and a deep corps of receivers, the Dolphins shouldn't be as offensively lopsided, a good thing given that the line remains in flux and there is little depth after starting tailback Ronnie Brown.
Last season marked the first time since 1997 that the Miami defense statistically ranked outside of the top 10. The unit has a lot of tread rubbed off the tires, particularly a front four that averages over 30 years old, but should rebound from its No. 18 ranking of a year ago. The defense looked very quick in preseason, the secondary is better, and weakside linebacker Channing Crowder is an emerging star.
It hasn't taken Saban very long at all to return the Dolphins to contender status. Overtaking the Patriots in the AFC East, which New England has won four of the past five seasons, won't be an easy task. But the presence of Culpepper, whose return from knee surgery is nothing shy of remarkable, makes it possible.

By Ken Moll, Scouts Inc.
The Dolphins have had a very sold offseason. If new starting QB Daunte Culpepper is healthy, he can take them a long way. New backup Joey Harrington appears to be responding to the Dolphins' offense much better than Detroit's scheme. DT Dan Wilkinson adds nice depth to an already-solid position.
Chris Chambers and Marty Booker are solid, but the Dolphins' receiving corps lacks depth. Other concerns are the kicking game and secondary. Will they miss Sam Madison? They tightened things up in their last preseason game against the Panthers, but I still have concerns about this secondary.
Prediction: First in AFC East.

This is what I dont get. Past few years with the Vikings Culpepper was the ? mark. If he could hold on to the ball, if he didnt throw INT's. He has a MVP year two years ago and goes into last year with more ? marks. He has his worst season and wants a raise because of it throws a fit and all of a sudden he is the best QB in the league?
Dont get me wrong I think he can be with the right coachs around him and he has them in Fin land but I am wondering why the big switch by the media?

Dolphins coach Nick Saban didn't dismiss the idea that the Dolphins would work out wide receiver Charles Rogers, cut Sunday by Detroit three years after being the No. 2 overall pick in the 2003 draft. Before Rogers was an injury-plagued bust for the Lions, he went to Michigan State, 54 miles from his hometown of Saginaw, Mich. As Michigan State coach, Saban recruited Rogers for several years. ''I know he worked very, very hard to get back from his first collarbone or shoulder injury, then [injured the collarbone] again,'' Saban said. ``Things just haven't worked out for him there. . . . He has a lot of ability.''

On Monday, the Miami Dolphins worked out veteran running back Antowain Smith, who already has played for the Buffalo Bills and New England Patriots in the AFC East, and moved forward in signing former Cleveland runner Lee Suggs.

The Dolphins continue to show interest in ex-Lions receiver Charles Rogers -- they have competition -- and also gave thought this week to Jabar Gaffney and Peter Warrick.

i think Charles Rogers has great potential. I think the Dolphins will do well in 2006. I like Daunte Culpepper and his backup Joey Harrington and especially RB Ronnie Brown.

Yeah, I'd love to get Charles Rogers. I think he has a chance to be good.

Dolphins WR Chris Chambers acknowledged the obvious, that he and Daunte Culpepper weren't, as the cliché goes, on the same page. Nick Saban did put some of the blame for the seven sacks on the receivers not getting open.
Wow that is one I heard last year also...

People kept asking Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper if the effects of his injury last October bothered his self-esteem out there. No, no, he kept saying late Sunday, both he and his self-esteem were fine. Coach Nick Saban said exactly the same thing, over and over. Never mind that coaches unfailingly express belief in their QBs, no matter how awful they might be, and QBs unfailingly express belief in themselves, over all same sensible indicators. They have to. This time both the coach and the QB mean it. ''I'm all right,'' Culpepper kept saying afterward, and he is.

He tended to suffer from locking on to one receiver if I remember correctly...
Everytime I see a highlight of Culpepper throwing the deep ball I instantly think "that only works if Moss is down there" cause to me it has that "run deep and I will chuck it up" look, if that makes any sense

The biggest target for Miami's 0-2 start continues to be the quarterback, the highest-paid player on the team, the one whose acquisition this offseason drove ticket sales. Daunte Culpepper. ''I'm just going to continue working,'' Culpepper said Monday, ``and do everything I can to get better.'' There is obviously room for improvement, and though Nick Saban isn't thinking about benching Culpepper now, the debate isn't utterly ridiculous to the coach. ''No,'' Saban said about a change now. ``We need to give our quarterback a chance to make plays and when he has an opportunity to make plays, there are things he needs to do a little better. I think you can say that about every position. ``I also think there's a certain level of performance we need to get from every position and if we're not going to get it at certain positions, we would consider making changes.''

SPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Dolphins coach Nick Saban could be bringing backup Joey Harrington off of the bench if starter Daunte Culpepper continues to stumble.
Mort says that Saban told Culpepper this week that he's not the same guy he used to be before tearing three knee ligaments, and that he has to get rid of the ball sooner.
The overriding concern is that, while Culpepper is physically recovered from the serious knee injury, he might not be mentally recovered.

If he gets benched for Harrington, he should fake a knee injury and tell everybody this time surgury can't help. He will need to retire.

1-6
Now 2-6 assuming the 28-13 lead stands over the 7-0 Bears. I'm feeling a 10-6 finish. :laff: I wish. Nice to see Ronnie Brown do well.

Dolphins QB Daunte Culpepper was inactive for the second consecutive game and Nick Saban told the TV announcers that he would resist the idea of placing Culpepper on injured reserve, but will do so if necessary.

This has been a very good week for linebacker Zach Thomas. Obviously Thomas got to celebrate Sunday's victory against the Bears, but he also should be happy that he's got an extra $2,500 in his bank account. That's because the NFL reduced an earlier $5,000 fine Thomas had gotten, according to his agent, Drew Rosenhaus. Thomas was fined five weeks ago for allegedly having helmet-to-helmet contact with Pittsburgh quarterback Charlie Batch. Thomas appealed the initial fine and agent Rosenhaus represented Thomas in the appeal with an arbitrator.

Dolphins LB Zach Thomas, appearing as a guest on Fox Sports Radio with Jim Mora and Dan Morriarty, asked about the attitude of the 2-6 team: “We have nothing to lose so we got to play loose. Don’t play tight when we get the lead or anything. We have nothing to lose right now so we just need to fly around have fun. Usually when you’re having fun you’re winning. You can’t take the joy out of the game. It’s a great game and I’m just happy for the team.”

Suspended Dolphins running back Ricky Williams said that he would consider returning to the CFL next season, but that he hasn't made up his mind as to whether he would reapply for reinstatement into the NFL. Williams, who is serving a one-year suspension from the NFL for violating the league's substance abuse policy for the fourth time, is under contract to the Dolphins through the 2008 season. "I'll have to talk with my family and Coach [Nick] Saban to really see what the best decision is for me," Williams told USA Today. "As of right now, it doesn't exist. Nothing does, except today. "I could die tonight."

I don't think the Dolphins will beat the Vikings, even with Culpepper playing against his old team. I'm keeping my television tuned to this game and having Sportsline focus on it.
EDIT: My god, that was a close call. (The fumble.)

I think the Dolphins will win. They're on a roll right now, I don't see them losing to the Vikings, after all they did just beat the Chiefs and Bears. They just need to keep giving Ronnie the ball and give Chambers a fair share of oppurtunities ot make plays.
