ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The New York Mets look for their first three-game sweep at Turner Field on Sunday afternoon when they battle the Atlanta Braves.
New York last swept a three-game series from the Braves from May 23-25, 1980. The Mets, who are 13-26 all-time at Turner Field, including playoffs, last swept a three-game series in Atlanta at Fulton County Stadium from August 14-16, 1979.
The Mets sent 15 men to the plate in the ninth inning and scored nine runs to snap a 2-2 tie in an 11-2 victory on Saturday night. Roger Cedeno's tie-breaking single started the uprising and Rey Ordonez delivered the big blow with a bases-clearing double.
Cedeno went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and Ordonez and Jay Payton also scored twice. New York's late rally made a winner of David Weathers, who tossed a scoreless inning.
The lone negative for New York was that catcher Mike Piazza left the contest in the sixth inning with a contusion in his left knee suffered in a collision at the plate. Piazza is listed as day-to-day.
Atlanta starter Tom Glavine had an outstanding outing, allowing a pair of unearned runs and six hits in seven innings. But fellow Cy Young Award winner John Smoltz was torched in the ninth, retiring only two batters while yielding eight runs and six hits.
Al Leiter (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will try to win his second start of the season for New York. The lefthander won on Opening Day on Monday against Pittsburgh, allowing just one unearned run and four hits in six innings.
Leiter made four starts against Atlanta last season and was 0-1 with a 2.10 ERA. The lefthander is 6-8 lifetime with a 2.77 ERA against the Braves.
With ace Greg Maddux on the disabled list, Atlanta will turn to rookie lefthander Damian Moss (0-0, 0.00). Moss is making his first start after tossing an inning of hitless relief in an 11-2 victory on Thursday against Philadelphia.
Moss made his first major league start on the last day of the season a year ago on October 7 against Florida. He allowed two runs and one hit in four innings and did not factor in the decision.
