The Tigers placed Damion Easley and Damian Jackson on the disabled list. In a way, these moves may help in the long run. Today, they put Dmitri Young at third, Jose Macias moved to second and rookie Andres Torres started in CF.
Personally, I was growing tired of Paquette at third and thought Young, Macias or Fick needed to move over there. None of them is great with the glove, but neither is Paquette. All three would provide more offense, although you wouldn't know it by today's performance(s). I think the Tigers are also better when Macias is a utility player.
Torres is the wild card. He has lots of speed (hit a triple today) and can really only play center, where as Macias can fill in at a number of spots. I'm not convinced Torres is ready for The Show yet, but the Tigers are as close to desperation as you can get after only one week of the season, so let's see what the kid can do. If he's only solid defensively, he'll be as good as Macias. If he can actually hit, all the better.
Sabathia was tough today. Tigers did have some opportunities, but as usual, they squandered them. The White Sox are coming to town tomorrow. I wonder if Garner will still be here Thursday? Should we go with the unproven candidates (Pujols, Fields, etc...) or the unemployed types (Leyland, Alou, etc...)?
