What's up with all this? Does an umpire get the same treatment as a player when this happens? How about an umpire suspension?

The Colorado Rockies turned the flyout into a weapon.

The Rockies tied a major league record with five sacrifice flies in their 16-9 win over visiting Pittsburgh yesterday.

"We were talking about it a little bit and we had only 10 going in and we put that play in the offensive handbook today," said Colorado manager Clint Hurdle, who was ejected after a confrontation with home-plate umpire Tony Randazzo, who chest-bumped the manager during the argument.

Reliever Ray King also was ejected. He was upset because he was not getting a high strike called.

"The whole game this guy's been missing that pitch up," King said. "If he wants to take it personal, because I asked about it, so be it. I voiced my opinion."

What did he say back?

"Some adult words," King said.

Randazzo wasn't available for comment before leaving the stadium, and crew chief Joe West said: "I'm not taking questions. We have a plane to catch."

Hurdle declined to discuss the run-in. "Oh, it's just hot out," he said. "Long day."

The game-time temperature was 97 degrees, matching the hottest in Denver's 14-year major league history.

Colorado matched the sac-fly mark for a nine-inning game set by the Seattle Mariners against Oakland on Aug. 7, 1988. The Rockies were stoked about making history.

"Wow, that's nice," said Yorvit Torrealba, who tied his career high with five RBI with a second-inning grand slam and sacrifice fly in the fourth. "I'll be in the record [books] somewhere."

All the sacrifice flies came in the first five innings with Ryan Spilborghs, Todd Helton, Garrett Atkins, Clint Barmes and Torrealba each doing it once.

I missed this inning. I was at work and the crap we have for radio around here has Dr. Larua on instead of baseball during the day. And the internet went out at work around this time so I missed this part of the game.

What's up with all this? Does an umpire get the same treatment as a player when this happens?Hell no! Don't think they will even publicize any fine/suspension Randicko gets. He should be suspended for 30 days, minimum. I don't care if King or Hurdle called Randazzo and his mom every name in the book. An umpire cannot be confrontational in any way, period! They're human, they miss calls. But they've got to suck it up and not provoke a damn thing! When King was walking off the field, Randazzo shouldn't have even been looking at King much less closing the gap on him.

Total bush league and classless on Randazzo's part. I don't give a flying flip how hot it was or how long the game had been going. Jesus! If I'm getting tired behind the plate working in 95+ heat, my strike zone gets bigger, not smaller. I want the damn game over with faster.

I shall voice my displeasure with Randazzo next time he's working a game I attend.
