What player holds the single season record for most games played in an American League ballpark?

You mean overall in AL parks or in a single AL park for that season?

Either way, my first guess would be Cesar Tovar, 1967.

Most games played in any stadium in a single year.

Not Cesar Leonardo Tovar, who played 81 games in Metropolitan Stadium for the Twins in 1967.

Did this player play in New York?

How about Jim Rice in 1978. Played 82 games at Fenway.

EDIT: Did the player in question spend the entire season with one team?

Only when he played on the road.:D

Not Rice, but he was an OF.

What am I missing here? The record is going to be 83+ games in one single AL park, correct?

Correct ol' buddy. The actual record for one player in one AL park is 84. I'm looking for that player.

I'm feel like the guy who shouted "there's gold in them thar hills" and Willie, Eric, James and Dave all grab their shovels and start digging.:Pimp

You never answered my other query: Did the answer to this question play on one team for the entire season in question?

Yes he did. BTW, the record for most home games is 85 held by 4 players who were all traded in mid-season. They did not however, come close to doing it in one park.

Did he do it with the Giants or White Sox a long, long time ago?

A long, long time ago is relative, to you and me.:hmm: Obviously it had to be after 1960 when the season expanded to 162 games. You're looking for an AL player in an AL park.

You're looking for an AL player in an AL park.Doh! I knew that. For some reason I have this notion in the back of my head that it had something to do with a team long ago (to you and me) that ended up playing more home games because of some weird quirk in their schedule. There still has to be something funky about the schedule if they played more than 81 games in their home park.

Hmm...how about someone on the 1970 White Sox, maybe Carlos May?

Not from the Sox (either one).

Well, hell  They played 84 home games that year, thought I finally had it narrowed down.

Bobby Knoop with the Angels in 1967 might have played 83 home games. But my eyes don't see any AL team since 1960 to play 84 home games in a single season :notme:

There's one. They played 84 home games and 78 road games. The player who played in all of the home games played in a total of 161 games that year. He is a HOF'er. I know for a fact that you have seen a picture of him today.:wedgie:

Unless you're talking about your own goldang avatar, that is :wave1:

Puckett, 1985.

In 1985 the Minnesota Twins played 84 home games with Kirby Puckett playing in all of them. See, that wasn't so hard.

"Thar's gold in them thar hills!."

So, Dale, what's the story behind the Twins in '85 and the ChiSox in '70 playing 84 home games?

I'll have to look into that Willie. I was suprised when I saw it but no explanation was provided. Off balanced scheduling for some reason as it wasn't a case of a rain out being made up because, at least in the Twins case, they were the home team and not the visitors palying the game in their park as some kind of make-up.

Dale, one reason I didn't consider them so match past 70s was that they played indoors. Not even chance of 'ties' from rainouts being made up there. Determing why the Twins got 84, White Sox 84 and Angels 83 in those three seasons will be the real dig to this question.
