I hate that the press is already anointing the Mets as "kings" of New York. Don't they know that Mets fans are as fatalistic as the old Dodger fans were? In modern terms, we compare with Red Sox fans in that we get our hopes up and then have them dashed at the last minute.

Not this year. I will NOT allow myself to get caught up in this until the Braves and the Phillies have been mathematically eliminated. And even then I'll want a recount to make sure.

That said, I read in one of the papers today that the Mets' magic number is 94.
