He's been getting hammered lately and tonight is no exception as he has blown the lead in the 7th by giving up 4 runs:Pissed:

His downfall was walking the 7th and 8th hitters to begin the 7th:ugh: Damn walks usually come back to haunt you:nono:

Yeah, he just hasn't been very good for I'd say about a month now. Grrrr.

nan & I went to the game tonight (happy early b-day Nan!) and I thought for sure nobody would get boo-ed (my friend at work was like "hey, nobody's been sucking. the fans won't have anyone to boo tonight....")

oh well. guess we were wrong. heilman was the only one who got boo-ed tonight. yeah he sucked but i actually kinda felt bad for him (maybe it's cuz we were sitting a few rows behind the mets dugout and we could SEE his face as he was walking towards us after giving up those runs) he looked CRUSHED. i felt bad. and people booed loudly.

their energy was strangely mellow tonight. maybe they just needed to get this garbage loss outta the way, to get the pressure off after winning so much on the road. met fans had HIGH expectations tonight at Shea.... all 45,967 of us lol...not a bad turnout.....

:laff: Y'all lose for the first time in damn near a couple of weeks and you're booing a solid looking young pitcher! Reminds me of Yankee fans, no offense ;) Feel free to send an e-mail to Omar instructing him to ship Heilman off to Houston for a not-much-chance prospect.

I've got Heilman on a fantasy team and I'm not about to give up on him just yet. But I'll tell you who is sucking pond water for me right now, Cliff Floyd. Know he's been hurt with a bum ankle in the last week or so, but when is this guy going to get it together? I'm getting ready to have to make a decision on keeping him or not, and solicit your opinions on whether I should keep him or dump him.

Gawd....I felt horrible for him last night. :( Okay, maybe he hasn't been that great lately, but he's been mostly solid this season, coming out of the bullpen. I've seen him come in and just blow guys away. This is not a guy who is eternally sucking.

Horrible, horrible treatment by the fans last night. There were some Orioles' fans sitting by us, and I was actually embarrassed. Absolutely uncalled for, and it's the one thing I don't like about New York fans.

You should have heard this obnoxious guy behind us who, I swear, had the loudest voice in the place - he was constantly on Lastings Milledge - Lastings Milledge, of all people.... a rookie....whenever he came up to bat and whiffed, or grounded out, or whatever he did. I turned around a few times, and the a**hole would finish yelling and then sit down with this smug look on his face. I swear, I almost said, "Okay, why don't you take his place and see how well you do as a major league ballplayer?", except I didn't want to engage him, and ruin what was actually a very fun evening, (even if the Mets lost).

And, thank you, Cyn!!! - it was a fun night! (And strange, since I like the O's and if they had been playing any other team I would have been ecstatic!)

They're considering actually putting him on the DL , retroactively. :ugh:

I now know why they lost last night: because Nancy was there. Being a fan of both teams, the karma vibes were getting mixed signals.....

All right. I took off my Orioles earrings as soon as it looked like they were hammering Heilman. And the earrings were the only thing I wore that represented the Birds!! Tonight, I swear to God.....I WILL BE WEARING NOTHING HAVING ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE BIRDS!!!

:Peep: :sigh: :whistle

Yeah, I was a little suprised that the booing was so loud... I probably wouldn't have boo'ed him but he has been struggling as of late...

Heilman has seen his era go from 1.98 to 4.86 in his last 10 games pitched... 6 of those 10 games he has given up at least a run.. In his last 11 innings he has given up 14 runs on 17 hits:eek:

He obviously has a flaw in his mechanics that he has to work out... He really hasnt looked so solid the last month...

GOOD GOD please don't compare us with them  :( it's not a specific yankee or met-thing, but a general "New York thing" unfortunately.... there exists that breed of new york fan who needs to boo SOMEbody. Ugh i hate them but unfortunately it comes with the territory...... it sucks because basically, you are NOT allowed to make a mistake, according to the way these fans behave......

nan & I were talking about the top 3 baseball cities we'd like to play in if we had a choice. i was telling her that New York was last on my list! (for this very reason!) I know i am so not thick-skinned and i'd probably be crying each time i made a mistake and the boo-birds got me!

so my top 3 cities were:
1. Baltimore (b/c the fans are loyal, they like to cheer but not boo the crap out of you if you God forbid had a bad day)
2. St Louis (seems like the fans are really amazing and an overall positive vibe)
3. Chicago (Cubs)

i picked these three based on 1. how well the fans & overall city treated the players and 2. how much the fans care about the game/team.... I know california fans probably don't boo their players too much, but at the same time they probably don't care too much for the game either (whereas New York fans care a little *too much* understatement.... they'd sacrifice their grandma for a win)

nan said she'd pick NY (mets) as her first choice! girl's got guts!!

(whereas New York fans care a little *too much* understatement.... they'd sacrifice their grandma for a win)Poor granny. Houston fans sometimes boo for the wrong reason. Like when they booed manager Larry Dierker for not giving Bonds a meatball to hit out for his 70th homer in 2001. I was thoroughly embarrassed to be an Astros fan at that moment. I mean, for crying out loud! We were trying to make the playoffs when that was going on and the majority of the fans at the park that night (Oct 4th) were hoping to see Big Head hit his 70th homer  And he did, the bastard!

Interesting ponderance, where would I want to play? Baltimore, Colorado (if I wasn't a pitcher) and Pittsburgh might be my first three choices not counting Houston. Also wouldn't mind wearing a Yankees or Red Sox jersey, but just for one day.
