Am i the only one who thinks the Tigers should NOT be active? Whats the point, unless your going to get a dominant closer, which i don't see one on the market. The Tigers have 6 starting pitchers (including Maroth) who have pitched almost as well as any starting pitcher in the league this year.

There are also very few gaps in the hitting. Look what Thames has done since been given a chance to play full time, and Monroe after Leyland played with him for a few weeks, and even Vance Wilson has hit great when given a chance.

Every media source i see says that they are going to be active, but i don't see why.

I think they are doing quite well just as they are. Agreed they need a better closer, but heck even Todd Jones isn't that bad.

How is Rodney doing. I thought he was slated to be their closer for the future.

We'd have to give up too much for what he's worth IMO. I'm sure Humberto Sanchez would be apart of the trade.

The only player i want who's on the market is Aubrey Huff. He can play first, third, DH, and the corner outfield positions, and is a left handed hitter. He probably wouldn't hurt the chemistry of the current team, or have to give too much up for him.

Jun 26 The Detroit News' Tom Gage reports Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland ruled out the team trying to trade for Philadelphia Phillies OF Bobby Abreu during the team's post-game press conference. "I think they can be," Leyland said, referring to trade rumors being distracting. "But I want to go on the record, so all of you get your pens and pencils out -- so you hear this one time. We are not getting Bobby Abreu, nor are we pursuing him. End of conversation."

It doesn't sound like this is happening.:)

Huff would be a nice addition.

He has been getting hammered the last month... His era is over 6.00:eek: and he has given up 40 hits in 30 IP..

I dont know why they dont use Rodney more.. I think he could be a very good closer... He did a fine job when Jones was hurt and easing back into the closers role.... 2.79 era, 1.06 WHIP, 22 hits in about 38 IP..

Other than that, they are having a great season and playing well together.. If it aint broke, dont fix it;)

I think that's the approach their taking. I really think Leyland is afraid to mess with the chemistry, which is why he's denying the Abreu rumor so hard, and he was really upset when Maroth got injured.
