I see that Alex Rios is getting strong support as a write in. It got me to thinking who had the most write in votes and did he get in to the game. I have been looking for days and can not come up with anything. Please help.

Didn't Ortiz get a ton either last year, or the year before that?

edit-I guess it would have to be 2 years ago since it was in an NL ballpark with no DH then.

Steve Garvey was the write-in starter in 1974 (and ended up winning the MVP) but I'm not sure how many votes he got. Rico Carty garnered over 500,000 in 1970. Not sure how many Ortiz got in '04 but it won't happen again, Boston now lists him as a 1B on the ballot even though he rarely plays defense.

thanks for trying. I did find out about garvey, but not Carty. 500,000 is a lot of votes for a write in. I am going to keep trying until I find the figures.
