when is Penn going to come off the DL and pitch. I have heard good things about him and want to see him play. He had appendicitis and I thought was about ready to ply.

No word on when he'll be off the DL, but fans were calling for Rodrigo to go to the 'pen, and Hayden Penn to take his place in the rotation. But then R-Lo had a pretty good game his last start, and they already put Chen in the 'pen.

So, the rotation consists of (I don't think this is the order, but these are the guys) - Benson, Bedard, R-Lo, Cabrera, Loewen. So, depending on how any of those guys do, it's up in the air about whether Penn will be put in the rotation and someone moved out, or whether they'll just send him back to the minors for more "seasoning".

At this point - who the hell knows. :notme:

Here's some news on Penn from David Selig at the Baltimore Sun, in his "News and Notes" column.:

Injury update

Manager Sam Perlozzo said pitchers Hayden Penn , Tim Byrdak and Ryan Keefer are expected to join Single-A Aberdeen "pretty soon," with Penn possibly ready for a rehabilitation start around July 9.

After his rehab start, the Orioles likely will put Penn at Triple-A Ottawa initially, the manager added.

"I think the people in the minor leagues felt that if there was ever a time when he was ready, that it was this last time," Perlozzo said. "He was really on top of his game. ... I don't think you would want to bring him back up if he's not showing you he's back in kind of a groove."

Penn had surgery for appendicitis the night before he was supposed to make his first start for the Orioles this season. He was 2-2 with a 1.48 ERA with Ottawa, but has been on the disabled list since May 23.

I can think of two people I've known ovr the years who had appendicitis and surgery. But it seems like there's one or maybe two ballplayers each year that it happens to.

I know. There seems to be a rash of these lately. Right after Hayden Penn had his attack, Xavier Nady on the Mets, and Gary Cohen, Mets announcer, had attacks of appendicitis!

What's up with that? :notme:
