Damn, the Sox have a lot of players who should be going to the All Star game, whether it's being voted in or selected by the AL manager. Off the top of my head:
Curt Schilling
Josh Beckett
Jonathan Papelbon
Kevin Youkilis
Mark Loretta
Mike Lowell
Manny Ramirez
David Ortiz
Plus, Mike Timlin is about as good a middle reliever as there is, but middle relievers get no love.
Sorry, I love 'Tek but he's no All Star this year.
Am I off the mark on any of these?

what about Alex Gonzalez?
edit-I guess there are better SSs out there than him...but he's been a stud of late.

The only one I'd argue is Beckett. Yeah, he's pitched better lately, yeah, he has 10 wins. I just don't think 4.50 ERA's are All-Star material.

you just plain don't like Beckett :eviltongu
haha, j/k
I agree with you that a 4.50 era isn't really all star material, but can you argue with 10 wins, you know?

I agree that a 4.5 ERA isn't great, but it's also not that bad in the AL.
Are there 6 or 7 other starting pitchers you'd select over Beckett?

Hmmm.
Mussina
Liriano
King Felix
Butt f*ck Rogers
Contreras
Garland
Maybe others. I'm really not a hater. :D When I see Beckett beat good teams, then maybe I'll change my mind. Remember people wanting Clement to be an All-Star last year? :laff:

albert puhols is still gonna win for 1st base in the NL, even though he won't be ready to play...everyone knows its a popularity contest.

My 7 starters would be:
Halladay
Santana
Liriano
Moose
Schilling
Kazmir
and I guess Contreras because he's 8-0...I also like Verlander/Bonderman

i think the Twins fans will forgive you :D
"Santana strikes out 13 Red Sox in eight innings"
might be healthy amnesia! :D

OK, my only real gripe is that Curt Schilling got snubbed. Are you effing kidding me?
AWESOME that Mark Loretta bumped Robinson Cano from the starting lineup! I guess my 30 votes Friday afternoon helped. :)

Ozzie needs a drop kick to the face is more like it...I also think Morneau was snubbed...just because there was so many stacked up 1B Positions...don't get me wrong, but Papi isn't a 1B, he couldn't handle it with the Twins, and 200+lbs later he still can't handle it with the Sox, some 1B's (Morneau) really got the shaft. On the other hand...lets all vote in Liriano for the final vote as we all know he deserves it BY FAR!

I'm not bitter, far from it, in fact I'm glad we (the Twins) let Papi go...our hitting coach Scott Ulger did absolutely nothing to help him progress. Joe Vavra has been much better for us this season...I mean look at Mauer and Morneau...but the point I was making, was that Papi never plays first base, he's very unathletic on the defensive side of the ball, so why should he be given a start at first base, just because the DH rule isn't in effect.
I mean, when Timlin calls him off on a bases loaded popup to the right side of the infield, you know that his defensive skills aren't his forte. I'd say implement the DH rule for Papi and the AL...but don't put him at starting 1B, we all know he's a born DH.

He is ready to play and even missing a few weeks, he is still in the top 2 in the league in hr's and rbi's... Also top 10 in average, 2nd in obp%.. He's been on a tear since coming back from the DL...
Ortiz, Hafner and Thome should have a chance to start. While I'm sure strong NL fan would hate it. DH should be the All-Star game, even in the NL park. Let's face it, Ortiz no 1B and he know it, so does everybody else. It's a bit silly a non-1B is starting at 1B. Not argue Ortiz shouldn't start, but he's no 1B.
Though the fact remain people never really give a damn about defense. Tex, who I believe started last year, was the complete package at 1B. While if Giambi or Ortiz started, it's silly since they're not all that good with glove.
Garland, PP? :laff:
Youkillis doesn't have the huge power number, which might be the reason he would usually always be ignored, even with a great glove and great contact hitter. In short, a good baseball player without a monster HR total. Look at Glaus, who hitting a pathetic 240., he's going over better 3B like Crede and Lowell. :D
Beckett not much of a snub since I take plenty of pitchers over him. Schilling would be a snub. Hey, if Schilling very angry about it, then I like to see an interview of him displaying his anger. Overall, Big Schill pitching this weekend, so he's not really in line to play the game and give no more than 1 inning while Buerhle an inning eater. Granted, I would have took Liriano, Verlander, Bonderman and Mussina over him.
Mussina in line perfectly to pitch in All-Star game, I believe. So, I'm a bit disappointed that a Yankee that "deserve" to go, is not. What a messed up system. :hmm:
