Hi folks,

Nice community you have here! Apologies for the unoriginal username but it was actually my handle of choice when I was a kid on local BBS's (been a Mets fan since 1985--30 years old now)..

At any rate, I haven't actually been to Shea since I was a kid with my Dad.. well now I have a kid of my own, and he's a huge Mets fan (biggest 4 year old Mets fan I know!). At any rate, we're going to the game on Wednesday and I'm driving from New Jersey (Franklin Township in Somerset county).. The MLB Mets website says to take George Washington Bridge (as if you're going to Yankee Stadium), to Major Deegan South....to Triborough Bridge...to Grand Central Parkway....to Shea...

Do you think there's a better route? That sounds like a lot of driving to me, though I am familiar with getting to Yankee Stadium (the wife is a big Yankees fan). Also can you tell me approximately how many miles Shea is from where I'd hop on the Major Deegan?

Thanks for your help!

Welcome to Addicts!

I see nothing wrong with your username. :D I like the No. 5 - that means David Wright to me!

Nice to see you're raising your son right, what with the Missus being a Yankees fan. :D

Wish I could help you with the driving question, but I live in Midtown Manhattan, so have never driven to Shea. Perhaps someone will be able to jump on here and help you. We have members from NJ.

But, if you're curious about the mileage between where you get on the Major Deegan and Shea, you could go on "Mapquest", and type in the beginning point (that point of the Major Deegan) and then type in your destination (Shea.) They'll show the mileage for you, I believe.

I don't really know Jersey that well, but coming from the north, really the only places to cross would be the GWB or the downtown tunnels. So I think the GWB would be your best bet, but you then have a couple of options that I think would be better.

I think the Cross Bronx would take you to the Whitestone Bridge, but the Cross Bronx rarely moves, and the Whitestone gets tons of game traffic.

I personally would probably take the GWB to Harlem River Drive south to the Triborough. (The Harlem River might actually become FDR Drive before the Triborough.) You're actually going into Manhattan this way, but it's just for a short ways. That's how I'd often go to my ex's in Suffern, Rockland County.

Enjoy the game!! And come back and visit us often!!
