Last night, before the game, on another site, I almost posted a laughing hysterically response to someone who called the last few games a "tailspin".
And then last night's game happened.
WTF?! Are the Mets going to be allright? Are these few games an indication of the second half? Will David Wright come out of his slump? Do we need pitching or what?! :ugh:
Yikes. John Maine was really, really impressive there at the beginning. I was shocked at how good he was, getting all those strike-outs. Granted, he ran out of gas really fast, but it was his first game back, and I thought he was excellent.
Then the bullpen came in. Holy moly. That was a nightmare!
Ugly. Just plain ugly.
Someone tell me our team will be allright.

you guys are up by 10 games in a terrible division, your team has the division title in the bag... no need to go anywhere near a ledge until October

relax, nan! still got a huge lead and still play in a terrible division. Just play .500 ball the rest of the year and you're still easily in.

I think they have always had these problems especially the pitching. Martinez and Glavine are good, but not too much else. The relief corp is not great. They looked better because of the division they are in. Hell, the whole national league is bad. They will probably make it to the NLDS for sure, then the winner will lose in the finals.

I was at last night's game. Not a pleasant experience! :gripe: Thank goodness the fireworks were fantastic!
I've been worried a bit myself, Nancy. I'm wondering if these kids don't have the stamina for this marathon we call the season. I'm wondering if we really cannot compete against the big teams. But then I remind myself that Boston came into the series with the Mets on a 10-game win streak, so we really cannot blame the Mets for those losses. And the other AL teams we've played have been having very very good seasons.
We've generally done quite well against National League teams, but it's the AL we've been having difficulty with. Draw your own conclusions on the inference of which I will not speak. ;)
So yes I'm a bit worried, but I'm not allowing myself to obsess over it. Well, not too much, anyway!

I'm a bit worried as well because we look a little lackluster out there.. Maybe the big lead and leading up to the AS break has us off a bit... As others noted, the rest of the division is not really taking advantage of us going thru our slump but it is still concerning...
I kinda think we will limp into the AS break and then catch some fire to begin the 2nd half... Just a feel I have...
Going into a short series, I feel good about our pitching... As long as Pedro and Glavine stay healthy, you have to feel good about 2 future HOF'ers in the starting rotation...
Plus Trax is a solid #3 and El Duque has pitched well since coming to the Mets... Plus our BP is one of the best in baseball... We are going thru a tough stretch right now and its easy to be discouraged but we will be ok in the long run... Think positive!!

GOOD win today (yesterday), they needed it! Man I sat thtough fireworks night and sunday night vs the yanks (okay I left when it was 16- something or other). Nice to see a late inning, come from behind win.
As far as out pitching, I really only feel 100% comfortable with Glavine on the mound. I ove Trax, I do, he us my favorite Met, because off all his ups/downs, but he is just not consistent. Although he pitched a helluva game on Sat, vs the Yanks, pitched himself into trouble and then pitched pitched himself right out of it.
Even though the Mets are up by double digits in the NL East, I just don't count my chickens before their hatched. :)

Nanner, step away from the ledge, step far away.
Look at it this way. You're in a league with Bret Myer's Phillies, a young Marlin team, an awful National team and the Braves, who have a bullpen 100 times worse than your own and every other team in MLB. You can play under 500. play and win this division.
Mets should be a bit worry, but nothing will happen until October. Trading deadline come up at the end of month. Honestly, if you're going to WS, this year would be one of the best chance to do it looking at the rest of NL. I would be advise to play for this year. Mets need SP and RP badly. Mets need a couple of RP, but they need that number 3 pitcher that will help during the playoff.
Biggest problem is what out there? Will you over-pay?
Overall, Mets are still the best of the NL. I think there a deal away from being threaten team for the WS. Sorry, but at the moment, I don't think they'll win the WS with that bullpen. If Pedro injuried, all the pressure falls upon Glavine. That's not good.
This team will likely make the WS in my mind, but what this team beating the Red Sox, White Sox, Tigers or Twins at the moment? I just don't see it happen.

My team was up 15 games last year, and I had one foot off the ledge and the other on a banana peel.
