Felipe Alou was offered a job with the Tigers as bench coach to Luis Pujols. Pujols was given the job for the remainder of the season today, as well.

I joined tonight's game in progress, so I don't have all the details, but more coaching changes have occurred. Rafael Landestoy is the new first base coach. It sounds like Steve McCatty is the new pitching coach. Juan Samuel moved from the first base to third base coach's box. I'm guessing Rettemund is still the hitting coach, but who knows?

Now, if DD could only change the players...... Anyone interested in a fire sale around July 31?

I don't know much about Pujols. Best of Luck to him. I bet Felipe takes the job. It's clear he misses baseball.

BRIAN- Please, let's not CURSE Dombrowski by referring to him as DD. *shudders* Think of another name.

Pujols coached at AA Erie last season and is the uncle of Albert. Other than that my knowledge on him is limited as well.

Pujols would benefit a great deal if Alou accepted the job.

Pujols, for those of us old enough to remember, had an unspectacular MLB career, as well. (I think he was a catcher with Houston.) He coached with Alou in Montreal before joining Detroit's organization. As Josh said, he managed AA Erie and was the Tigers bench coach this year.

Alou is hesitant to take the job here. First, he is concerned that Pujols will only be here for this season, then replaced. Second, he wants everyone to know he still wants to be a manager. Being Detroit's bench coach might cost him an opportunity to go elsewhere, especially mid-season.

pp, I'll attempt to refrain from the use of Dave Dombrowski's initials to help alleviate any nightmares you may incur. Remember, it's ok now. The bad man is gone.

Pujols was a catcher. Career stats (http://www.baseball-reference.com/p/pujollu01.shtml)

You think Alou may coach the Montreal team that inevitably is going to end up in D.C.? Something to think about ...

I'm not sure what to think about Alou. He's certainly spent a great deal of time developing prospects into big league stars, but at his age (67?) he might want to win more games than teach kids. Of course, with only 30 jobs available one can't be too picky.

Places like Colorado and Texas have some quality veteran players and have managers on the hot seat. Alou might like one of those places better than playing second fiddle to Pujols here. Also, if your Pujols and this is your first shot at a MLB job, do you really want your interim replacement sitting right next to you?

As for the DC team, today's Baseball Weekly says unless Angelos sells the O's, it might be years until the nation's capital get another franchise. No one should be waiting for the next incarnation of the Senators to arrive. That might be quite a while, especially with no labor agreement in place.

The whole time he was in Monteral he was developing some very good prospects like Vasquez and Vlad
