Right fielder Brad Hawpe was given serious consideration for a reserve spot on the National League All-Star team from manager Phil Garner.
Hawpe said he hadn't heard that Garner considered picking him, but was honored his name was mentioned.
"That's a good manager of a good ballclub looking at me," Hawpe said.
He said he would love to play in the game one day.
"It'd be awesome," he said. "It'd be an unbelievable opportunity someday."
And he said it's something he thinks can happen.
Instead of heading to Pittsburgh, Hawpe said he will spend some time with his family in Colorado.
Garner said Hawpe has put up All-Star numbers through the first half of the season. He is batting .312 with 48 RBIs and 41 runs entering Saturday's game. His 11 outfield assists are tied for second-most in baseball.
"It was a difficult choice not to take him," Garner said.
The reserve players selected for the NL team include Rockies left fielder Matt Holliday and closer Brian Fuentes.
