For those of us in the Boston area, what a disaster this whole thing has become. A woman has now been killed due to the incompetence of this state.

I pray the Feds come in and clean house. I for one will NOT drive through any of these tunnels again. I will stay on 95 and Route 1. This tragedy is unacceptable.

i saw that, jacqui. being that this is somewhat in my field of expertise, I only have to say that heads can, should, and WILL roll.

they said there were SIXTY problem areas. SIXTY. inexcusable.

I was thinking about you Ray, because I know you are an engineer. This is a real scary link.

That is absolutely terrible. :(

A 1998 state Inspector General’s report warned of problems in a different section of the I-90 connector tunnel with ceiling support systems similar to the one that gave way Monday. But Pike officials say systems installed after that report passed independent safety tests.

ok, 1998 they report problems could/would arise and yet they continue to use those in construction?

and what kind of boobs are doing the inspecting, anyways? If this had been 30 years down the line, this would be understandable since stuff degrades over time. but not this fast.

Ray, Boston is so damn corrupt. They now discovered they used the wrong concrete.:hmm:

A few people made a lot of money on this project hiring incompetent people. It is billions over-budget, still not done, and now people are DYING.

A criminal investigation has been launched. I pray heads roll.

There are a lot more accidents that happen that are not reported. My sister's brother-in-law was almost killed working on a portion of the Big Dig. He was an electrician and now will never be able to work again because of his injuries. What happened was that he was working in one of the tunnels and an icycle almost speared his neck but missed slightly. The icycle was huge, and caused brain damage among countless physical injuries. Fortunately he can walk and talk on his own but he lives with the constant pain and will do so for the rest of his life! He was telling me about how neglectful many of the workers and supervisors were which caused countless accidents.

I agree Jacqui, Boston city government is unfortunately corrupt. It has been for years. Hopefully this incident will start to wake people up and there will be no more injuries to anyone!

I am sorry for your sister's brother-in-law. That makes me so mad. I bartended for years, and most of my customers, (day shift mind you) were all Modern Continental employees "working" on the Dig.

Once, a boss called my bar looking for his staff, they were hammered, and they flew back to work.:hmm: It really is a joke.

WTF?!

the first time i saw the article yesterday i was like, ok, accidents happen why blame anyone? then i remembered it was like 8 gazillion over budget and they were having issues several years ago. my sister was b*tchin about it when she lived there even though she didnt spend time there long enough to really work up a rant.

they need to do a clean sweep and get rid of anyone who was involved with the dig, sue the piss out of the contractors, prosecute them, and make sure they never hold a job above dog catcher again. same with the actual engineers for continuing to use the same design.

Well, it looks like nothing is going to make these SOBs learn a lesson! Ray, my sister has another brother-in-law (and electrician) who works on the Dig who is a good guy and a very hard and concientious worker! He's done side work for my friends! There are some out there, problem is, you just can't tell who's who! Fire the planners, engineers, contractors etc and even the workers themselves. But I wouldn't say to hurt the workers' careers. Poor and corrupt management has long been established as the culprit in this mess. Start at the top and work your way down!

Thank you. He is a father of 3 and like his brother mentioned above, was a good hard worker. I feel awful for his wife and kids, his boys who will never get to have Daddy play catch because he physically can't, doesn't have the flexibility. Stupidity and neglect changed this family's life forever and that is just so sad. :( I blame the supervisors for not being more on top of things with these workers. I mean how do these guys have the TIME to go to a bar while on the job anyway? :Pissed:

i'm talking about the people directly involved with the faulty concrete and all in this, not people like electricians and all. thats what i meant, really. the ones involved with the faulty design and all. Contractors do get blacklisted and so do engineering firms. that needs to happen in this case.
